I could care less about whether players of opposing teams flash a Horns down. It’s just human nature to give the team you beat (and it’s fans) some ribbing. But this is why Saban is so good. The circumstance was wrong for celebration. He immediately sensed it was a bad look for a proud Ala team that had just pulled out what looked to be an unlikely win. Saban was already looking forward and making sure his players didn’t gloat over a team that had gone toe to toe with them. Respect for Saban…and I suspect his players got the message immediately and understood.
The officiating was poor. Ala committed about 50 penalties and only got called for about 15. Good day to be an Elephant.
Child, name-calling is the refuge of the limited mind. Watch the film. You’ll see if you let yourself see.
No one at UT cares about Horns down. Saban wisely cut it out because it wasn’t a good look under the circumstances. This is why Saban has been the best for so long. He gives nothing away. Respect.
The play was not clean. The hit was clean but the follow-through was not. Ala player intentionally dropped full weight on the qb without trying to break his fall. Did he intend to harm? Who knows? Did he intend to drive the qb’s shoulder into the ground. Of course he did. Only someone with either bias or limited intelligence could conclude otherwise. And you have both qualities on full display here. But it happens. Next man up.
I like Stoops’s pod for Texas and OU. He admits he has no inside scoop. But having Texas, OU and ATM in the same pod would be fantastic. Great competition. Lotta Horns downing by those Aggies and Thooners.
And just heard Bijan Robinson has been named a first team USA Today All-American. I’ll have to confirm but if true, it is not at all consistent with this “ranking”.
Welp, this ranking is about to get blown sky-high. Spiller already runs like a high-level NFL back. Bijan Robinson averaged over 8 yds per carry and will come on even stronger this year. I’m thinking this list and ranking was tapped out on a laptop in 20 minutes while on vacation with minimal research. It is so bad it is garnering attention, which may be what was intended all along. We are being played. Oh well, carry on...
I agree. It’s all about laying groundwork for being drafted in NFL and if gifted athletes can get SEC experience from going to Texas, many will do so (their families will encourage this). But Texas has to do its part. It can win more games than it loses in SEC right now, but the goal must be to become a regular 10 win season team. If it does, recruiting will blossom and as much as many hate to see it, Texas will compete for a playoff or final four spot with a shot at winning it all
Agreed, particularly as to the Arkansas rivalry with Texas. Back in the day when I was at Texas (early 80s), Arkansas and Texas played some great games. And there’s the 69 game that decided the NC. I’m excited to see what Pittman can do at Arkansas and hope Texas gets the win this fall in Fayetteville. Really a must win game for Texas or we will get an earful with the move to SEC under way.
Paul is right about Texas— particularly given its propensity to play to the level of its competition. But most Longhorns know that Texas will need to look more like the Texas from 2000 to 2010 than the Texas of 2010 to 2020 to be competitive.
Yes— was about to post but read through to see that someone else had made the point: OU will always be Texas’ most important rivalry. Certainly always has been and I can’t imagine that changing.
This is of course correct — and indeed quite obvious from the context of Sark’s remarks. But when did this matter in hyper-animated atmosphere of message board chat.
Haven’t heard a single Longhorn predict we will just run through the SEC. Of course we hope to get our groove back and do just that. But all I know realistically don’t see that happening right away. We do hope and expect to be competitive. Looking forward to playing LSU more. We respect LSU.
Interesting. Texas played LSU closer than about anyone in the SEC a couple of years ago when LSU has the best season in its history with the qb transfer from Ohio St. They put a pretty good whipping on a decent Georgia team in the Sugar Bowl not that long ago. That said, Texas does have some ground to make up and it humbly appreciates its opportunity to join the SEC and compete. Hook ‘Em!
Everyone is so sensitive. My man Sark is just telling his guys to get ready. It’s a compliment. Of course Aggie will exhibit befuddlement and resentment but that can’t be helped. It’s congenital. Texas is coming ready to play while understanding nothing will be given to us. We have to earn it. Will be fun to watch.
With a cupcake schedule for Ag and Mechanical (yes Alabama is on there but the rest is less than daunting), anything less than a one loss season should be considered a failure. This is the little secret the SEC wants everyone to overlook: It has propped up the Aggies for bringing the Texas market to the SEC. But the times will be changing. Aggies you need to tighten up. You finally have a chance at something better than third or fourth in the conference (your position in B12 days and your history so far in SEC). I can’t bring myself to say good luck. I’m a spirit of collegiality I’ll just say do your best
This is one of those silly assessments pre-season that is not data-driven and is designed more to generate talk. Ignore. Chizik probably couldn’t tell you who is in Ole Miss’s backfield or on its o line. And he probably won’t check before he talks more about running games this season.
We have to put up with this kind of nonsense for awhile but the Longhorns will be in the SEC sooner rather than later. Glad to meet y’all and look forward to the competition.
