Why are so many people so shocked that Mizzou's D is #2 on this list? Did you not watch any college football last season? Brothers was a tough loss, but the Tigers return almost the entire 2-deep from the best defensive unit in the SEC East and one of the best in the entire nation last season. If Mizzou's offense improves even marginally and gives the D some more rest and better field position, the D could be even better this season.
Agree about A&M and Mizzou. Mizzou's best season in the last decade came in the Big 12 (2007). Reached #1, finished #4. Heisman finalist (Chase Daniel), two consensus 1st team AAs (Martin Rucker and Jeremy Maclin), and three other AAs (Daniel, William Moore, and Adam Spieker).
I'd swap out Moore and Witter for Josh Augusta and Donavin Newsom. Witter and Moore probably don't belong anywhere near the top 10, honestly. Charles Harris is also #1 in my book by a decent margin.
Mizzou has had two QBs drafted during this timeframe. Brad Smith went in the 4th round to the Jets in 2006, in addition to Gabbert in 2011.
Man those OU and Nebraska teams were tough back in the Big 8 days, but I'm surprised Mizzou has faced more #1's than so many of the old guard SEC teams.
Tevin Coleman (RB from Indiana) was only a 3rd rounder, but he was a unanimous All-American and finished 7th in the Heisman voting that year. Their QB, Nate Sudeld, will also probably get drafted. Indiana probably would have won more than 4 games he if hadn't gotten knocked out for the season in their 6th game. Still an inexcusable loss for Mizzou though.
Mizzou reached #1 and finished #4 in the AP poll in 2007. Also had a Heisman finalist (Chase Daniel), two consensus first-team All-Americans (Jeremy Maclin and Martin Rucker), and three other AP All-Americans (Chase Daniel, William Moore, and Adam Spieker) that year. Definitely a close call between 2007 and 2013, but I think most Mizzou fans would probably give the edge to 2007.
