Greg Schiano He built Rutgers' program from scratch. He built a recruiting pipeline that extended from the Northeast all the way down to south Florida. He's a skilled defensive coach, and he runs a tight ship. His players go to class, get decent grades, and arrests and other shenanigans never seemed to happen on his watch. 11-21 record in the NFL (Spurrier went 12-20 I think). Rutgers never got the 5-star athletes, and 4-star commits were rare. It was Rutgers after all, but he could coach them up. More NFL players from Schiano's Rutgers teams than you might think, along with some Pro Bowlers from his Miami DC days (Jonathan Vilma, Ed Reed). Schaino gets a bum wrap because he was a hard ass coach of a Tampa team that was accustomed to jerking around, and because his Rutgers teams could never beat West Virginia to win the Big East. Prior to his Tampa tenure, for a few years he was turning own HC offers from the likes of Michigan, Miami, and other top-tier programs. Schiano is definitely qualified. His brand just got trashed in Tampa.
