Uh, has anyone considered that maybe this is bulls#!+? I don't think a team that hung with Georgia until 4 minutes to go (yeah, I know, a loss nonetheless) is afraid of Kansas. I think they would be licking their chops.
Missouri has every bit as much history with Arkansas relating to the Civil War. Gen. Price, the state government in exile, Pea Ridge. It's not a thing because some hyped up rivalry from the Big 6, 8, 12, etc.
The Missouri Tigers were formed to repel Quantrill and were successful. Columbia was not sacked. The Jayhawkers, not so much. Lawrence burned. The same thing happened when DeLoss Dodds grabbed power from the Big 12. History repeats. Much happier in the SEC.
In 1900, people lived for Harvard vs. Yale and Wisconsin vs. Univ. of Chicago. Harvard and Yale still play, but few care. Chicago dropped football a century ago and the field house became a laboratory where the first atom was split. The world changes, and CFB's greatest days were ahead. Things change. KU-MU is no longer relevant, one team decided it was ludicrous to give one school power over the rest of the conference. The other became Texas' B!+(#. Choices have consequences.
When I first got to Mizzou, I learned very quickly that far more Mizzou fans want to beat Illinois than Kansas. It's just fact that two times as many Mizzou fans are from St. Louis than Kansas City. A weak Illinois from the Big Ten(12) is a far better victory over a weak Kansas from the Big 12(10).
I am a Mizzou alum and I live in the Kansas City area. I have zero interest in playing KU in football. There's no point. The Big 12 isn't even going to exist after the next round of television contracts. I doubt KU will be able to find a home in the conferences that are still around, though the Big 12 - Pac 12 merger thing might happen. Still, KU will likely not be a part of that. And don't get me wrong, I feel bad about that. KU deserves better. They just have not been able to get any traction in football since firing Mangino, and his years were anomaly. KU has not been a football power since the early 1970s. I have been to maybe 20 MU-KU football games. It was fun while it lasted, but the world has changed.
