Everybody in the comment section has an axe to grind. Some are fans of other teams, who think that a grand jury gives a sh*t about Florida football. Some are social justice warriors who are compelled to believe any hint or rumor of a perceived injustice. Some are just Wildcat fans who want their players back. Personally, I see the racial slur excuse used to try and wriggle out of tight spots all the time. Could the players be doing that? Absolutely. Could the people at the party have tried to wrongfully accuse these guys of B&E or burglary because they were mad their party got crashed? Absolutely. Bottom line is the grand jury cleared them, so I would imagine it was a case of dumb college kids on both sides hopped up on testosterone and that syrup. SO…back to football.
They didn’t ask us, Philly. Finishing 2nd in the East still doesn’t make us important enough for an invite we don’t want XD
KirbySmart, still finished second in the East...so is your division god awful? I’ll go tell the playoff committee about your weak SoS, in that case.
Really wouldn't hurt my feelings if Gran took a head coaching offer. /shrug
You're smokin' that sherm if you think UGa is scoring 45.
"Maybe in the state of Kentucky it's ok to do what Leach did..." Lol, what a goober.
Yeah...being a bottom dweller in the West is almost as bad as being a bottom dweller in the East...
Meh, it worked out for the best. Juice is happy here, and we're happy to have him. Classy move from Muschamp, nonetheless.
I don't know that we need to play perfect...if the Auburn team of this season thus far shows up, and the Kentucky team of this season thus far shows up, I think we've got a good chance at winning, mistakes and all. But if the Auburn team that the preseason pollsters envisioned shows up, we definitely will have to play a perfect game to beat 'em.
Looking for a young, energetic coach with SC ties?.... Hold on, lemme find Lou Holtz's number.
It's a major problem with this team. They are too cocky, and when something isn't going their way, they pout and just kind of stop playing. Luckily, they realized at the 11th hour that they were about to lose to an FCS team, and got over themselves and made the big plays. To their credit, they have no trouble "getting up" for the big games (FLA, USCe, Mizzou), but they somehow think they are good enough to just stroll out onto the field and get a W just for showing up against weaker competition (ULL, EKU)...they aren't.
I see a lot of fellow UK fans acting like a couple wins (albeit exciting wins, I grant you) against SEC opponents means we are a sleeping giant in the SEC. I'm all for enthusiasm, but let's pump the breaks just a tad. I'm looking at the game against Eastern right now (who is a top FCS school who just had one of their brother's pass away, which always rallies a team) more than predicting laying an ass whooping on Auburn. Yes, we can beat Auburn, but we've still got some work to do before our program reaches the level where we can look at a traditional SEC football power and scoff. Having said that, I'm extremely pleased at where we're at right now in the season, and am excited to see how we fair against the rest of the schedule.
Your defense is strong, but your secondary is not as strong as Florida's. I would put Mizzou and Florida's overall defense on par with one another, maybe a slight edge to Florida, but if you are going to have a defensive weakness against an Air Raid offense, you don't want it to be your secondary. Our O matches up against your D more favorably than it did against Florida, hence why we are the favorite in Vegas at the moment. Blah blah...we're all armchair coaches at this point. For all we know this could turn into an offensive shoot out...although I doubt it. I'll take the over, and pick the Cats to cover.
Nah, our offense has only struggled all 4 quarters against Florida. We will put up some points against you guys. Having said that, I'm surprised we are the favorite for this game. I have learned to not underestimate Mizzou in the East.
They let their foot off the gas after going up big on ULL, and ULL ain't the mid-major team to do that against. Plus, Towles forgot what ball placement was in the second half. I don't know if we will take USCe at home, but I know last Saturday's game wasn't an indicator of our potential this year, one way or another.
I always thought that it ought to have been considered a barrel of whiskey, considering the fine Bourbon made here in the Bluegrass, and that junk whiskey they make down there. ;)
Great article and speculation here, Mr. Levine. I've often wondered the same thing. While it surely would have changed the history of Kentucky football, and likely made us an SEC and national powerhouse on the gridiron, I simply cannot even fathom an alternate history where Rupp's influence is lessened. Even though he had already won 3 of his 4 national titles, as you stated, the combination of not getting the fourth and the terms on which he would have left, having been relegated to the background in UK athletics, would have greatly impacted the trajectory of our basketball program, nonetheless. When it's all said and done, although I have been patiently waiting for our football program to be a contender in the SEC again (some times, admittedly not so patiently), and at times would have sacrificed our tradition in basketball for the same prestige in football, I like our history the way it is: the greatest tradition in college basketball, and a football program in the early stages of beginning it's own tradition. If Stoops can take us there, I believe we have the right leadership in place in our athletics department to keep us there.
Any means* Come on, SDS. Give us fat fingered folks an edit option, already.
I'm obviously not a Vols fan, by and means, but this is pretty damn cool drill.
Note to all fellow Kentucky fans: If the article is written by Brad Crawford, don't waste your time. Honestly, I could almost deal with the perpetual discrediting of my Cats, and predicting misfortune, but you can't even proofread your articles? I understand you probably write several articles a day, but good grief man, read them before submitting them. The predictions themselves I don't find completely outrageous...although I do raise an eyebrow at Tennessee being picked as your favorite, and of course to Kentucky finishing second to last. I feel like your main determining factor for placing Kentucky 6th is previous performance in the conference...which would be fine, if that were your main determining factor for the entire list. Your choice for 1st, however, shows that is not the case.
As mattpowell said, Kentucky is the front-runner for Harris...and every recruiting site has it listed as such...but it's no shocker that you, Mr. Crawford, would write an article suggesting the he is a shoe-in for Ohio State. This kid has come to almost every UK home game, tweets out to the team after game, and even seems to be a huge fan of the basketball program, tweeting out about them several times recently. I'm not saying he is a sure thing for us, but we are certainly the front runner.
Well, check one of the two points off the list with the hiring of Shannon Dawson as the new OC. He's plenty aggressive, and a damn good hire in my opinion. Now for point number two...we'll know in a few weeks about Mr. Harris.
Loserville ain't beating Georgia. We damn near beat the dirty birds in their own stadium this season, and Georgia is just a touch better than us this year (see: final score of Georgia Vs Kentucky).
Great moment, great family. Say what you want about Bama fans, but you can't question the passion they have for their football program.
We can start by making a strong OC hire, and signing Damien Harris at RB. To the former point, as much as I respect the UK alum and former OC Neil Brown, his play calling seemed down right silly at certain points throughout the season, and his departure to head up the Troy program will give UK a great opportunity to land a offensive play caller who will be, hopefully, more aggressive and more in tune than Brown seemed to be at times. To the latter, I have personally watched Damien Harris play, and while I am no scout or expert, I believe his presence on the field would have an immediate impact on our offense. The kid is really that incredible. I would also add that I believe Stoops and the future OC need to make it clear that the QB job is wide open this off-season. While Towels looked great early this season, his play down the stretch was lacking, to be polite. Redshirt Freshman Drew Barker needs to be given a fair shake in this QB competition: I believe he might be the most gifted kid at the QB position we have had since Tim Couch.
Petrino is a scumbag. Time for the Cats to go bird hunting.
Here's a link to part 1 of coach Stoops' post-game presser, if the SDS staff will permit it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6VaT8JY8wk
These fan's opinions don't represent the vast majority of UK football fans. The mentality of a UK fan tends to be one of high expectations...for Basketball, that means national championships. For football, we tend to expect continuous progress, and we don't want to see backslides like going 5-1 and then 5-5. If Stoops had not had so much success at the beginning of this season, I think it would actually be easier for him right now. Once you start winning, people expect that from you. For football, not every game, but consistently. For those of us UK fans who are serious fans of both the basketball and the football program, we know that the football program requires loads more patience and pain tolerance. I would wager that the majority of the fans whose tweets are shown above are UK basketball fans who only occasionally pay attention to the football program. I think Stoops is taking us in the right direction. I think his extensions may have been a bit premature, but I believe that he could very well lead us to being a conference contender in the next few seasons. If not, I guess those extensions are going to set the football program back a bit 3 or 4 years down the road. Until we find out one way or another, I will keep being supportive of this coach and this staff. #StoopsTroops
