As much as I would like to see Napier turn it around, his game day coaching, clock management, play calling and stubborness regarding the hiring of a special teams coach and OC tells me that we will be lucky to win more than one game next year unless the defense can make a 3rd down stop at some point during the year.
Our seemingly disproportionate number of injuries certainly indicates a problem with the Gators' S&C component. IMO Napier should be at least partially accountable for making sure the team is game day ready. That apparently is not happening and may be one of the reasons why the 2023 version of the Gators is viewed as "soft".
Napier will be outcoached by every team remaining on the Gators' schedule. Will we win again? Magic 8 ball response: "Outlook not so good."
Agreed. Napier's stubborness should fall under #5 on my list. In my opinion there seems to be some key week links in CBN's on field coaching staff responsibilites/capabilities.
My New Year's Resolutions for CBN: 1. Learn to manage the clock 2. Overhaul special teams...they need a real coach 3. Take points when they are there for the taking 4. Open up the vanilla playbook..the announcers are calling our next plays 5. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face, in other words analytics don't always work. A good coach knows when to use common sense.
Common denominator? All our proponents of the analytics approach to coaching. Stricklin bases his hires on coaches who are big on analytics. Napier appears to use analytics in place of common sense and the need to make adjustments. Too early to judge Golden in any way but not impressed so far with his coaching decisions.
Amen to that. The White era in Athens is off to a predictable start: strong first half then almost blowing an 18 point lead to hang on to a win against Western Carolina.
Although I think Napier is a better coach than Jimbo overall, I can't see the Gators pulling this one out for a number of factors: 1. Toney continues the soft zone d. Their new ace will eviscerate us underneath with slants, quick outs and other garbage to their TEs that we can't cover. 2. Third down d is still abysmal 3. Richardson is playing with a nagging injury so the playbook is limited and his throws will continue to be inaccurate. Don't think Kyle Field will be that much of a factor. Gators played their best game at Tennessee.
And poor coaching decisions on 4th downs, in the red zone, and inside two minutes.
Fisher is all smoke and mirrors. He won that natty on Bowden's coattails and looking the other way with Winston's frequent flyer appearances on the police blotter. After Jameis left he hightailed it out of Tallahassee as the program imploded, blaming the AD's lack of commitment to facility upgrades. The Aggies are getting a taste of the real Jimbo now.
Gators have been the epitome of huge letdowns this season.
Agreed. Addazio was horrific as interim HC at Florida when Meyer left and in my opinion, started the long road downhill for the Gators. Extremely predictable. Aggies aren't going to win many games with that clown in charge of protecting the QB and opening lanes.
He also inherited a lot of talent from St. Bobby.
LOL, not sure what defense your were watching Neil. Normally I find your analyses spot on, but this defense is bad. Toney's inexplicable soft zone strategy, Gators lack of edge containment and pressure, horrific 3rd down D and the Tiger's ability to control the pace of the game with 36 minute TOP does not bode well for the rest of the season. If Jaydon Hill was out again this week we lose this game hands down.
Sumlin was fired for doing more with less.
HaHa, wish I could say that the phrase will never have to be used again in that context, but sadly I'm afraid the wound will be re-opened many times this season. We'll know a lot more after this Saturday.
Agreed. IMO it would make more sense to use Wright as a receiver coming out of the backfield if we have to keep running those east-west plays. Sure is baffling.
The Gators performance in this game is disturbing at all levels: Defense: Miller's absence hurts but should not have resulted in the reptilian disembowelment we witnessed last night. At this rate the LSU game last year will look like a stellar defensive performance. Offense: Blase, non-creative. Beginning to look very Addazio-esque. Recruits will start to take notice. Napier has too much on his plate. Special teams: Ironically, the "Gamechangers" have lived up to their nickname, but not in the way Napier intended. Penalties, poor coverage, bad angles and lack of effort have been this unit's trademark thus far.
Fisher and Cristobal both hugely overrated. Cristobal the better overall coach but Fisher used to battling SEC caliber talent week in and week out. Have to give the slight edge to the Aggies in this one.
In other news: Florida had a special teams staff?
This would have been the perfect season for the NCAA to roll out an eight team playoff. At least one G5 program would be featured and an undisputed champion crowned at the end.
