Kiffin has been hitting be postal hard since 2021 class. This is nothing new, other than recruiting services are starting to rate portal players and classes like traditional hs recruiting. The big talk in 21 offeseason was the big “gamble” Kiffin was making by adding so many via the portal. Two NY6 bowls and 2 10-win regular seasons so far seem to point that it’s not bad. Tie together with top 15 hs recruiting and can be a solid balanced approach.
He’s an LSU legend. He’s who’s started the tradition of #18 being passed down at LSU. If you don’t know how Jacob Hester is I assume you’re either really young or don’t watch much sec football over the years.
According to both boosters at A&M and those within the ole miss program, A&M called him almost immediately to gauge interest and he shut them down. That’s why he’s not on any lists (other than journalists speculating who aren’t in the know)
Ole Miss’ NIL, based on official collectives, is 5th in SEC in size. Most recent figures at least. Ole Miss isn’t hurting for money or facilities, that’s for sure. It’s a new world in NIL now. A&M is one of the programs with a larger NIL collective than Ole Miss, but not enough to want him to leave. A&M is dysfunctional. The new NIL world shifts power, and A&M isn’t what it used to be. Bama could take Kiffin, but not many other programs at this stage. Anyone in the industry understands this. Some fans are stuck in the past and media narratives.
Matt Carroll? You mean Matt Corral? Also, we had consistent top 15 recruiting classes last decade and a couple top-5 classes. Kiffin’s doing well but not quite back to that recruiting level, YET. But quickly getting there.
The all-time record is skewed from the fact that Bama and Ole Miss hardly every played in the 50s through the mid 70s when Ole Miss won 6 SEC championships and 3 national championships. This was due to the bear and Johnny Vaught not wanting to play each other when both programs were competing for titles every year. In those days the coaches got in a room each off season to decide schedules, and Vaught and Bear were the two elites. Bama caught on toward the end of the era, but the 50s and 60s would’ve likely added a lot more wins to the Ole Miss column had they played. That, and the loss in two recent wins from a player sleeping on a couch.
How do you know what the causes were? The half dozen or so I’ve seen pop up in just the last week or so have not had one official cause of death. I’m not suggesting anything one way or the other, other than almost each article classifies it officially as a “mystery”. So I’m not sure how you can say it’s something different, when we aren’t told at all what it is.
Agreed. Way too many bowls. Most of them don’t mean anything anymore, and from what I gather, it doesn’t motivate most athletes. In fact, it’s demoralizing for them, if it’s a lower bowl, because instead of going home for Christmas break, they have to stay on campus and practice for 3 more weeks.
I’d love to see Deion’s team in a bowl. But isn’t the SWAC FCS, not FBS? I didn’t think FCS division was allowed to bowls. Is Deion not aware of what FBS stands for, or is he lobbying to change conferences/move SWAC to FBS? I’m guessing this is more of a marketing/recruiting ploy. All that to say, I think it’d be great if the tigers made it to a regular bowl
Really sad. There seems to be a new athlete die at a young age for unknown reasons, no sickness, almost every day the past month. From espn to various other sources, it’s all these “mystery” deaths. It’s really sad, but this can’t be a coincidence. I wonder what the cause is.
