It's MD, for one, but clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. :)
These protestors ran onto the field to call for freedom for 25 dogs who are being held captive in TAMU's MD laboratory, after a lifetime of suffering and deprivation. TAMU has stopped breeding dogs to have MD, and their cruel experiments have not led to any cures for humans in four decades. The surviving dogs could be adopted into loving homes, but TAMU inexplicably refuses.
TAMU’s experiments on dogs who have been bred to have MD—a terrible, crippling disease that leaves them struggling to walk, swallow, and even breathe—are not only cruel, they are wasting precious time and funds that could be better spent on humane, human-relevant research that offers real hope of a cure. Nearly four decades of these experiments on dogs have not led to one viable cure or even a treatment to reverse symptoms of MD in humans.
Everyone who cares about animals should speak out against TAMU's cruel and pointless MD experiments on dogs. These cruel experiments haven't led to any effective treatments for the disease in humans in the last four decades. TAMU should put its resources into human-relevant research that offers real hope of a cure.
PETA operates one small shelter—a desperately needed shelter of last resort for animals who need euthanasia to end their suffering (many of whom have been rejected by other facilities). This includes dogs who are aggressive and unadoptable because they have been kept chained their entire lives; feral cats dying of contagious diseases; animals who are wracked with cancer; elderly animals who have no quality of life and whose desperate guardians brought them to PETA because they can’t afford to pay a vet to euthanize them; and the list goes on. A painless end is a kindness for these animals, and the services PETA provides are vitally needed in an area where many people can’t afford to take their animals to a veterinarian. I'm glad the pressure is on TAMU to end its cruel dog experiments. Not only are these experiments terribly cruel, they've failed to yield any useful results for humans suffering from this horrible disease. That's because results from one species can rarely be applied to another. We need to focus on finding human-relevant treatments and cures, and quit wasting time, money, and animal lives in these experiments.
The dogs are deliberately bred to have this crippling, muscle-wasting disease. Many dogs struggle to walk and can't even swallow food because their esophagus muscles become so weakened. Their muscles are repeatedly stretched with a motorized lever to make them tear. And they are kept in cages without even a blanket. 30 years of these experiments have not yielded a cure or even a single effective treatment for humans suffering from this terrible disease.
At a time when aquariums and even zoos are retiring animals to sanctuaries because they are realizing that captivity can never meet animals' needs, replacing Mike VI would be a huge step backward for LSU. Tigers are intelligent, active animals who deserve to live freely in their natural habitat, not cages and stadiums.
