The Nuss Bus was exciting to watch. Great job LSU! SEC tags another L on the B1G.
I just glanced over B1G teams’ T25 records. OUCH! Only Michigan is > .500 and that is 3-0 by cannibalizing conference W’s over OSU, Penn St, and Iowa. OSU made it to 2-2. Wisconsin could reach 1-1 with a win on a Jaydenless LSU but I don’t see that happening. Fun Fact: All Big 10 teams combined have ONE win against a non-B1G AP Top 25 opponent at game time: OSU over Notre Dame. All other T25 wins are them measuring against themselves. Plenty non-conf T25 losses though! ?
I predict that NIL contracts eventually dictate participation in bowl games at least of a certain caliber, or you pay reparations on your $$$ to the boosters who fronted it to begin with. Give it time. These very young men are ultimately independent contractors of the system now.
Isn’t the point of college to prepare you for a professional career in your area of study? Since the NFL doesn’t care about bowl games on prospects’ resumes, there’s no reason for the the athlete to risk injury that may cause them to drop lower or completely out of a multi 6-figure job opportunity. If the school staff cares about advancing their young men, they should also be protecting them from bad career choices. Losing a bowl game is only the con of this decision. Incidentally, you know recruiters for the schools want to both brag about their number of NFL players AND demonstrate to their prospective HS seniors’ parents that they actually do what is best for their athletes’ interests. It’s good long-term business for the schools, but it can turn bowls into exhibition games for next season’s talent and 2nd stringers. I watched Mizzou lose to Army in a game where Tyler Badie would have very likely made it a MIZ W had he played, but I’m glad he’s not in Matt Corral’s situation looking ahead at the combine. I hope Matt is just sprained and wish him well for recovery. He took a calculated risk which will complicate his next 8 weeks to be at his best to sell his skills to NFL scouts.
Nothing shocking me here so far. Pinson scores a lot but I agreed with Cuonzo benching him in the tourney loss to OU. Pinson would score a bunch some games and not much O other games. But he was consistently the soft spot on D. The scouting report became to attack through him. Pick till you get your matchup and drive it home. I’d be interested to see his +/- for playing time the last 10 games of the season. I am sad to see Parker Braun go. Although not a critical piece, it felt like he was developing. Kobe and Pickett are definitely the core for next year, and that is intact so far.
