No, I could care less who speaks out,I certainly don't care if racist speak out. In fact I encourage them. No need in them hiding in the shadows. It's just embarrassing. I didn't call all of the supporters racist either. It's hard to imagine in the information age that so many could be confused, but they are entitled to their opinions as well. In fact, the other nut on here, eff, told me I needed to move to another state because he didn't like my opinion. Are you going to condemn him for trying to silence me? No, and you shouldn't. He can say what he wants. It just makes him look stupid. Kinda like when you call me a communist. It's over though. The insurrection was defeated in 1865 and their supporters lost again today in the MS legislature. The official vote is tomorrow, but it's over. The sun will still rise. You may honor the soldiers at graveyards and museums. Go ahead and proudly wave your flag at home, too. Now it's time to talk sports.
If you are from Mississippi then you do have a right to your opinion on this matter. You have a House representative and a senator. Plus you can contact the governor. Nobody took that right. Maybe you gave it up?
First I'm not scared of the results, I'm more concerned about all the racist supporters making the state look worse than we already do. Secondly, we have a legislature for a reason. With that being said, we have Republican governor, Republican Senate and Republican House. And for all of the idiotic outsider talk, every major organization within the state has come out in support of changing it. That even includes the historical society. My Lord, how long are people going to fight the civil war. Even Ole Miss with all of its history is trying to move forward.
Sure, if that's what it takes to bring Mississippi into the 21st century. I love Mississippi, MSU and sports, but sometimes there are things bigger than sports. Word on the street is the SEC is looking at ways to stop teams from participating in Mississippi if it doesn't change the flag. I'm not talking about championship games either. So, the legislature will pass it now or when they are forced. Either way its changing. Worst case is that it changes in November.
Lol, you're pretty funny. Anyway, if you dont live in Mississippi, then by all means petition your state to install the Confederate flag on your state flag. If you're from Mississippi, the legislature will hopefully decide to take it down. If not, it will be voted on again. If it is taken down, by all means continue to fly it at your house or on your car. Nobody is taking that freedom.
Its pretty obvious how you feel about the flag, so by all means put them all over your yard and car. That way everyone will know how you feel. It's a free country. With that being said we live in a republic and the legislature will decide this.
I'll admit that by the time I got to those articles they were already closed. It seemed almost like they closed them immediately. The MS flag topic has the potential to escalate quickly if calmer heads don't prevail during the dialogue. I hope we can all maintain civility and be free to express our views as well. I do understand though that if people's responses were to turn negative they will close this thread as well. I love debate. Just never joined this forum.
Please clarify how I came out against free speech. You are more than welcome to spew anything you'd like. Feel free. I just hate the thought of all the backwards thinking spewing from Mississippi for the next several months. Also, no one is taking your right to vote. You elected officials in this state (I suppose you are from here). They were definitely Republican I can tell (p.s. I lean to the right, but I'm educated). This is a republic. Hence the name republicans go by. Also, if you dont like the outcome, you can always vote for someone else to bring the issue back up or you can petition to have a statewide election.
I'll agree much of the media has an agenda, both left and right. Bubba Wallace has nothing to do with the state flag of Mississippi. It's a shame people feel bullied to do the right thing. Doing the right thing should come naturally.
Honestly, nobody is stopping you from waving that flag or the Confederate flag either. We just dont want it on our state buildings. Its embarrassing in the year 2020. Heck, it was embarrassing in 2001. We need a flag that doesn't remind almost 40 percent of our population that we fought to keep them enslaved, and that we were proud to do it. By all means fly ten of them over your house. Let the world know how proud you are.
I've already stated why we shouldn't have a statewide election, and it isn't out of fear of losing at this point. If you look back at the last election, the current flag won at roughly 65 percent. But that was only 17 percent of the total population. We all know the older generation votes pretty hard. The thing is, that generation is gone now (they made up 20 percentof the population at the time). Many people I know have changed their mind as they matured and want the flag gone. Plus, most of the younger generation is more open minded. What I dont want is for everybody with a backwards opinion, that has since been debunked, to come out and spout stuff for the next 4 or 5 months to make Mississippi look even more ridiculous than we already are. Seccession was wrong (especially for the intended purpose of preserving slavery).
To the grammar police, I realize that there are a couple of typos. My bad, lol. I missed them during my proof read.
For some reason I can't reply to your latest comment. After 19 years since the last vote, I'm not worried about the outcome. I voted to change it last time and lost. That's ok. But even now, most of our legislators must feel this way as well. That is why they will hopefully change the flag. In 19 years a lot of older people have died and most of the younger generation realize what it really stands for. Reference matt wyatt's radio page on Facebook for further knowledge if you aren't sure. I know that a lot of people my age who voted to keep it last time have since changed there mind as well. The reason I am against another vote is because a lot more damage will be done to our already pitiful state image. Especially since this will be debated another 5 or 6 months on social media and the world stage. You can see that even this website knows how much hate will be spewed if they dont moderate it. I'm not sure how you feel about religion, but I have always tried to love and respect my fellow man. While changing this flag may not end racism, it is certainly a good faith effort to show the world that many hearts have change. We must find a common ground to find something that unites us.
Sure they count. I'm a tax paying citizen, and I'm assuming you are as well. We live in a republic, and we elect these officials to make these decisions for us. You may lobby your elected officials.
Thank you Kylin for taking a stand. If the flag does not get changed in the next few days, I hope more students from all of our universities will take the same stand. It's way past time for our state leaders to bring us into the 21st century.
