I think you're thinking of our free safeties this year. Collins is a strong safety and as such was NOT burned a lot this season. To me, they are different types of players, and both very good. Prewitt will be fine.
I agree, I'd say Alabama could slide to six, but TCU would be in front of us on my vote.
Number 7, and number 9 is why the Ducks go down tonight. The Ducks have some key missing players tonight, but it will not matter as OSU runs away with this one. I don't think the score will be close honestly. The Ducks cannot stop a great rushing attack, if teams are smart they will just play ball control offense and run the ball down Oregons neck. Hard to run fast paced offense when you're sitting on the sideline. Alabama is better than Oregon as well, if they run the ball, but that's for another season. Good luck to both teams.
I'll also disagree. College football is about match ups and taking advantage of those match ups and disadvantages. Henry was running wild around the left side and we completely abandoned that. Now, when we had the chance to go ahead by one with about 8 minutes left on their 23, the one thing you cannot have is a turnover, so percentages say run the ball and see if you can get some easy movement. I think we exceeded expectations this year, but we definitely could have been playing Monday if we would have pushed the run more and gave the defense some much needed rest. As bad as we tackled and played in spurts last Thursday, if you remove five plays from OSU, that game has a drastic different ending. We just have to take the loss and use the experience to get better next season.
The SEC West displayed the worst tackling I've seen in a bowl season for as long as I can remember. All that is left to say is we got our asses handed to us because they bought into the hype of being so dominant. It takes hard work to get to being labeled dominant. Hopefully they rebound next year with that sour taste from this years pounding.
The way Ole Miss played in their bowl game, I'm not sure they would have beaten SMU. I can't believe that somewhere in there, that was the same team that beat Alabama. College football is definitely a game of emotions.
Murf, I've enjoyed your insight this season. In many ways I think Alabama actually did better than what many people thought they would do prior to this season. I know Kiffen adds a dynamic that we haven't had in previous years, but I'll never understand how we can just abandon the run at times when we have a back averaging 7 plus yards a carry. Granted everyone is a perfect play caller a day later after the game, but OSU had absolutely zero answers off their right side when Henry was running at will and with Yeldon hurt, I would of loved to see the speed guy Jones get a few carries too. I will say that the chance we had to go up 35-34, after what had to be the most awkward indoor punt I've ever seen where I believe their punter fielded his own punt down the field, the play that was called to Howard was wide open, but Sims didn't see the trailing OSU defender and as such laid a soft throw towards the end zone instead of putting air under it towards the back for the sure touchdown, but that's why they play the game. I love that we have a playoff now and I'm looking forward to next season already and the Heisman campaigns of Fournette and Chubb. See you next season Murf, thank you for the great insight this season.
Actually it's a pretty good assessment of what we have done with receivers. Call it what you will but I'm not worried that we won't find someone out there that will makes plays for us. We will be fine.
I certainly hope the Raiders and Jets stay away from Cooper, I'd like Atlanta to trade up and get Cooper, that would be fun to watch on Sunday's.
Congrats to Mariota but I can't stand this voting prior to all the games being played. Just a little what if here...but what if Alabama dominates Oregon in a final and Marcus throws several picks and Cooper blasts their secondary? Then it kinda makes his numbers look padded because of the lack of defense that's played out West...just saying.
I'd say have a little more class for our fans as well. Everyone can talk hard after the fact, just let the young man enjoy his postgame comments. Cooper was covered, but that gives teams a look at what you will have to face. If you decide to double Cooper, you risk getting beat with White, Jones, and Howard. If OSU plays a ton of zone like I think they will, we need to just run it down their necks. For the most part, I think the Missouri fan base has been proud of their team, as they should be, and did well to get there two years in a row. Good luck to them in their bowl game as I pull for all SEC teams in bowl season. Cooper definitely deserves a trip to New York to watch Mariotta win the Heisman. I just wished they voted on this award after all the games are played.
Completely wrong you can clearly see him dip his head and drive through Sims's face. Look at the play again...he gone
Congrats to Missouri, I love your Coach and I think you guys are here to stay. I'm stiff baffled by these deep balls, we don't have a bad secondary we have bad decisions deep. What happened to coaches saying don't get beat deep and if you are give up the 15 yard penalty not the 65 yard play. I'm sure Oregon and Baylor and licking their chops.
I agree, if we pound the run on them early, I don't think this game will be close. If we get cute with the play calling and start slow, it will be closer than I would like. I'm not sure the Missouri offense matches up well at all against our defense, but on the flip side I think their defense can cause problems for us for a while, but if their offense is as anemic as I think they will be, that continued pounding and time of possession will wear them down. I'm looking for a touchdown in the return game and one for the defense to get this thing lopsided.
Is there a school there? lol, just kidding, it's a fun place to be for football and trash talking, never a dull moment around that game. We have to enjoy the wins while they are here....love beating Auburn. RTR.
Should be a fun game...good luck to the Tigers
The University Presidents are the issue. It's like anything else, they haven't figured out the money of it all just yet. The best format is an 8 team format, no more no less. In order to do that though, I think they would need to eliminate one regular season game if not two. Go back to 10 game seasons plus bowl games or playoffs. It can be done, it's just figuring out the dates and the money of it all.
That Sasser cat is pretty good, the matchup that is key is our Oline vs Mizzou Dline. I give the edge to Mizzou, we have not faired well in the past against the speed rush. I know Kiffen doesn't want to do it, but it might be time to RUN the damn ball this game. Long drives running the ball. Should be fun.
Kind of surprised they didn't go with Rich Rod or a Mike Leech type, but I think he will do well.
First I'll say good luck to Missouri this weekend. I've said it before, but prior to the season I thought Missouri lost too much to repeat in the East and labeled you guys a 4 loss team. Congrats on rebounding from the losses and winning the East. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know about your own team, but you want to know how to get respect? You take it in the form of wins and championships, and then you sit back, prop your feet up, and let the haters hate lol. Alabama has dealt with this for years and years. Hell every Alabama fan is riding the best College Football Coach's coat tails until the jacket falls off. Then we have to restart again. I'm thankful that we got rid of Shula and that I survived that era as a true Bama fan....but man was that tough. So winning helps your respect level. Missouri is a dangerous team, anyone who keeps looking into the backfield at who they lost to is an idiot. I don't care who they lost to, I care about Alabama not getting added to their who we beat list...no offense Mizzou fans but us Bama peeps have one thing on our minds...beat Missouri...then we will take aim at the next team until hopefully we win that trophy in what many called a rebuilding year for us. I respect Missouri because they keep winning when everyone keeps doubting them. They have a good coach and their players play hard and play defense..I like that. Again good luck Saturday and congrats on being East Champs again this year.
Missouri will be a tough test. Usually we have a much harder time blocking the speedy, smaller defenses. Should be another bruiser in the SEC.
That was a great game, there wasn't a Bama fan in the Country that wasn't worried in the third quarter, Auburn could have easily come into this game with a different mind set after the recent let downs, but instead they punched us right in the mouth. I'm not sure where Nick Marshal acquired those throwing skills but he was special. I can't believe Amari was not even making people's top five when all he's done is break record after record in the best conference in football, that has to amount to at the very least an invite to New York.
Just checked into the hotel, ready to see some Tigers get punted tomorrow at Bryant-Denny ✌️?
That's because Alabama has a much larger fan base, winning does that.
One of the greats. Miss seeing him on the field. It's good to hear of his success off the field as well. Thanks for the memories Shaun! ?
I remember Alabama calling off the dogs against Missouri the last time we played them and check the record books cause last time I checked your were in the SEC title game against Auburn....AND I'm pretty sure that game was a loss my man. Just saying.
Good luck to everyone during this week's games. I'll be headed to see the Iron Bowl. The only reason I would rank Ole Miss ahead of Arkansas is for the fact that it's not close record wise. Ole Miss is still a 8-3 team as Arkansas, although hot right now, is still a 6-5 team. No one outside the SEC truly understands you don't want to play Arkansas right now except maybe Texas Tech lol. As we get closer to this BS playoff, understand that losses simply do not vanish into thin air, although this committee would love to think so and that's why I think only one SEC team will make the playoff, they will simply ignore a horrible home loss by both Oregon and OSU. Arkansas has found the keys to success, but it doesn't erase the past losses. I mean this in no disrespect, as I knew Arkansas was going to ruin some teams season, so I can understand the swap in the rankings here. Maybe the selection committee if they are smart will include Arkansas in the rankings if all that talk of how teams are playing now holds true.
I'll admit I thought Missouri would be a four loss team this year so congrats again for another good year. I'm leaning towards giving the edge to Arkansas but I think it will be a good game.
How great would an 8 team format be? Making the cut right now, the games would look something like this: Alabama vs UCLA and Oregon vs Baylor Next group is FSU vs OSU and Miss. St vs TCU Now that's what we need to see.
It will be interesting to see what the ACC does. I mean I've never seen a player try to shove a ref out of the way since I've been watching football. The ACC should suspend him for the first half of the Florida game. Florida's defense will keep this one close and this is actually a good matchup for Florida. FSU will give up yards on the ground for sure. I think the gators pull the upset this week so we don't waste a playoff spot on these bums.
