Perkins is a man among boys on the field. Per his coach, he didn't even have a full understanding of how to play the position last year. They just told him to attach the ball. With a year to learn the position, he has a chance to be very special. He will be very high on this list next year, no doubt.
I am not fussing about Bower's being #1, but if it is possible to be undervalued @ #2, Harold Perkins fits the bill. Last year he was a 1 man wrecking crew. He literally had no idea how to even play linebacker. It was as if the coaches told him, "just attack the ball". It was like he was shot out of a cannon of every play. His motor was relentless. He was unbelievable. With a year under his belt to learn the position, he will be fun to watch. There is no telling how many tackles he will accumulate this year.
It wasn't that long ago that these same decision makers told us that this is not possible, due to final exams. These players bodies can't handle playing more games in a season. This is not the NFL. They made these statements with a straight face, while we all knew they were lying through their teeth. The old saying is that everyone has a price. In other words, there is nothing that you wouldn't do for enough money. Well, it appears that billions rather than millions, was the price for the NCAA.
The playoff expansion is all about more money. This will not change anything. This will not be like March Madness where a "Cinderella" makes a run. There will be a few upsets in the early rounds, but the cream will rise to the top. The best teams will continue to win the Championship. Either way, I am all for more college football. Bring it on!
The old saying is true here, "winning takes care of everything." If he wins early and often, this will all blow over and he will be accepted and praised by all Auburn fans. However, if he doesn't win, look out. This could be a powder keg waiting to explode. Either way, it will be fun to watch from afar.
I did not even read the article. No need too. Alabama is NOT making the playoff this year. End of story.
Here is one out of left field for you: Auburn hire James Franklin! He has the experience (Vandy & Penn St) and currently makes $7 million per year. Auburn will pay more than that easily. He knows the SEC from his time at Vanderbilt. Won 9 games in back-to-back seasons. He went 24-15 @ Vandy and is currently 77-36 @ Penn State.
With all due respect, did anyone @ TAMU contribute much?
That was played at Legion Field. The Birmingham Bowl is now played at the new downtown stadium, home of the UAB Blazers. Auburn played Cincinnati there last year. It holds about 45,000. It is not located in a bad part of town. It’s actually a very good location, and surroundings, for this type event.
You are correct about the Sugar Bowl. They have to take the highest ranked SEC team, not in the playoff. With the rankings from this past week, there is ZERO chance Tennessee moves ahead of Alabama. Alabama will go to the Sugar Bowl, and will face the highest ranked Big12 team, not in the playoff. Tennessee will fall to the Orange Bowl, since they will be ranked lower than Alabama, and play the highest ranked ACC school not in the playoff.
If I understand this correctly, I believe the sugar bowl is obligated to take the highest ranking SEC school not in the playoff. If LSU were to beat Georgia, they will be in the playoff with Georgia. If Georgia beat LSU, then LSU will have three losses, and without a doubt be behind Alabama in the rankings. this puts Alabama in the sugar bowl. I don’t see any other way Alabama can fall to the orange bowl or the Cotton Bowl. Am I missing something?
First for perspective, I am a lifelong Bama fan, but I have tremendous respect for "Cadillac". We are the same age and I attended high school about 30 miles from Etowah, where he is from. Just for a history lesson for those that do not know where the name "Cadillac" came from. Mike Raita, a longtime sportscaster out of Birmingham did a weekly high school football program. During one of Carnell's many early career rushing highlights, Mike made the statement, "This kid is as smooth as a Cadillac!" The name stuck and was obviously a foreshadowing of what was to come. I remember back in the day, pre-internet and instant access to everything, driving down Hwy 21, and pulling over to listen on the radio as this young man made his announcement to attend college. It was a huge day for me to remember this nearly 25 years ago. It is great to see what all he has been able to accomplish. He was a generational talent on the field. It is great to see him take advantage of this opportunity. I wish him and his family nothing but the best as they live this adventure. Whatever happens in the future with his career, I have no doubt that he will continue to lead and inspire young men. Congratulations, "Cadillac"!
The only reason for expansion is and always was, MONEY. Expansion is not "for the little guys" or "better access for everyone" or any other absurd reason given. Money drives everything! The fact that "The Alliance" delayed expansion, by a year but delayed it none the less, was shocking; until USC & UCLA announced they were leaving the PAC12. Why are the joining the BIG10? MONEY The annual payout with be nearly double what the PAC12 could offer. They will expand to 12 teams (or whatever number they settle on) and the end result will be the same. The SEC and BIG10 will routinely fill more of the available slots than all other conferences.
Regardless of wins and losses by anyone the rest of the year, Georgia looks like it is theirs to lose. It looks like a repeat for the Dawgs.
Based off this logic, the following is a list of unsuccessful NFL QB’s: Dan Marino Fran Tarkenton Jim Kelly Warren Moon Dan Fouts Warren Moon Donavan McNabb Randall Cunningham I see a few Hall of Famers on this list.
There will not be any Big 10 rejects. The conference will not make any team leave and no team would leave the conference either. Too much money to walk away from.
Everyone seems to forget that expansion is NOT about rivalries or what teams makes the most competitive sense. It’s all about money! That means TV markets. Clemson is not logical for the SEC because they are in SC not NC. The SEC already has the SC market. NC would add another market. VT would also. FSU adds nothing due to its proximity to Gainesville. Miami however, adds all of south Florida.
