I lived in Alaska for 3 years; the nearest I can come to a guess as to why that is goes back to the 2011 BCS National Championship. Most of them are Oregon fans, but they don't have the geographical proximity to hate Washington.
If the Mizzou's pass rush starts to get the best of Towles, I would expect to see a lot of snaps out of the Wildcat. Just because Heard and Kemp didn't post outstanding numbers in the past few weeks doesn't mean they won't.
I would personally like to thank Mr. Crawford for not mentioning the Kentucky - Florida game. By omission, he basically states that the outcome of that game has no bearing on Kentucky's chances for a trip to Atlanta. However, I would like to add that I believe the Kentucky/Tennessee game is a factor. If the stars aligned for the Big Blue Nation and The Wildcats beat Mizzou and Georgia, AND if Georgia loses a tight game against Auburn, the vols could still spoil UK's chance at winning the east. I don't even know how they determine the winner at that point.
You follow football, you get players and coaches. But you start to follow the money, and you don't know where it's gonna take you.
This, "SEC Bias," thing is out of hand. My skull exploded when I saw Louisville in the rankings. The cardinals are a two-loss team, sure, but to Virginia and Clemson. The list of teams they beat is unimpressive. Kentucky is a 3-loss team; we lost to #1 Mississippi State, #19 LSU (at night in Death Valley, but the way our Special Teams were, I'm not sure we could have won that in The Commonwealth), and to Florida, in the Swamp, but in overtime and due to a controversial call. I'm not saying that UK should be up there; I'm saying that if all this SEC bias claptrap were true, Louisville wouldn't be.
This whole season you all were talking up Stoops for taking Kentucky to 5-1 while scratching your heads and wondering what happened to Miles. UK suffered a pretty bad defeat to LSU and you're going to completely flip-flop on those two men based on one game? Nobody has made a bigger deal out of One Week since the Barenaked Ladies.
The title of this article leads me to believe it's about how Mizzou is the weird emo kid that no one understood back in high school, but it doesn't really read like that. They're the new kid, for sure, but from the outside looking in, it doesn't appear that they have an identity problem. Sounds like they know who they are. The Border War was huge, but they'll find a new rivalry soon enough. I think they've done fine in the transition to the SEC.
For me, thinking about Coach Stoops leaving Lexington is like thinking about my 2-month-old daughter growing up and graduating from high school. I don't like it, but it's going to happen and there's nothing I can do to stop it. I can just hope for as many quality years as possible. He's going to continue to grow our program, and as he does, he will learn and improve as a coach and be courted by other programs. As a free American, he's free to pursue other interests with my blessing, but not to my pleasure. Like Kaintuck, "Slide," and, "Iris," would run on repeat for at least 96 hours. As a proud Kentuckian who lives in Louisiana, against his will, I can say that Lexington is one of the greatest places to live on planet Earth. Coach Stoops' brother-in-arms, Coach Calipari, shares similar sentiment. It's up to us, the fans, to keep the Commonwealth hospitable to talent such as Stoops and Cal and, possibly more importantly, their families. They will, in turn, run the programs that both the players and the fans enjoy and deserve. The University of Kentucky is more than a school, a campus, a basketball program, or a football program. It is the manifestation of a way of life held dearly by every citizen of the Commonwealth. These coaches know that they are our lead ambassadors, and keeping top-quality representatives, such as them, is every citizen of The Bluegrass' responsibility. I believe we are up to the task.
I apologize for my poor communication skills, because clearly, I've been misunderstood. I'm not saying that the SEC West isn't a much tougher division this year. It is. I'm saying that an article written about a 3-loss team, in the basement of their own division, winning a division that they aren't in, nor have they played any teams in, is a hypothetical that can be proven in neither direction and seems a little on the absurd side. I pray for the day when I can spend an entire Saturday in front of television sets watching every game and memorizing sheets upon sheets of stats, but until then, I'll simply read these articles. What I won't do is allow an eye-rolling and preposterous fairy tale such as this story go without comment.
You guys are great at coming up with new and innovative ways to worship the West. This is reminiscent of SNL's "Superfans," wherein they pitted a hurricane against Mike Ditka.
