Not sure what this article has to do with Arkansas but there isn't a fan out there that was happy with the way Ark finished last year but it's not like Bielema isn't making changes. Defense was the weak link last year. Had they had even a serviceable defense they win at least 2-3 more games. So Bret hires a new defensive coordinator. Now both offensive and defensive coordinators are ex-head coaches. They switch to a 3-4 defense. Ark is not going to have the talent Texas A&M has on their campus right now. This year we start a brand new WR corps, new backfield, new DL and as I mentioned before a new defensive scheme. I think MOST Ark fans are realistic when it comes to expectations. That's the difference. I feel for TAMU. We know how it feels to lose games that we should have won when leading big at half. It's gut wrenching. Hope their season turns around. It's better for the conference if all our teams are winning.
Ordered in average ranking in the SEC over the last 4 years. Took the win/loss record and head to head matchups to provide the rankings. National rankings are those not in parenthesis while SEC rankings are. Based on this information Dan Mullen is the second best coach in the SEC out of the 7 coaches mentioned. There is no denying it is harder to recruit to some schools than others based on traditions, history, location, etc. and is not always because of the current coach. MSU has recruited on average in the last 4 years in last place among the 7 teams in question. Tennessee would be the biggest underachiever recruiting on average #12-#13 nationally, #6 in the SEC and a ranking in the SEC of 8-9 on average over the last 4 years. Texas A&M and OM have also underachieved for the talent they recruited. Florida is overachieving slightly while Auburn and Arkansas is about on par with where their recruiting rankings are. Of course there are flaws with this model but I believe it to be the best way to prove out the coaches from an analytics standpoint. Who does the best with the talent they get on campus? Ranking the coaches would go like: 1. Dan Mullen 2. Jim McElwain 3. Gus Malzahn 4. Bret Beilema 5. Kevin Sumlin 6. Butch Jones 7. Hugh Freeze *In light of their recent problems. Would be 5th otherwise. Media: Did you order the code red? Saban: I'll answer the question! Saban: You want answers? Media: I think I'm entitled to. Saban: YOU WANT ANSWERS? Media: I WANT THE TRUTH! Saban: YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH! Saban: Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with footballs. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Maurice, and you curse the Tide. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Maurice's transfer, while tragic, probably saved games. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves games. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending the end zone. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very limited information that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a football, and run a skinny post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to. Media: Did you order the Code Red? Saban: I did the job I... Media: DID YOU ORDER THE CODE RED? Saban: YOURE GODDA** RIGHT I DID!
If I remember correctly Henry had 95 yds against Ark and Fournette had 91. I think Fournette was hurt by the fact no one was afraid of LSU's passing game. Everyone loaded the box on every play. Then when it was obvious passing situations, the blitz came. I think Henry had a much better situation. Not taking away anything from either one of them. Theyre both heisman caliber backs.
Bryanchip I agree with you and this not a knock on TN. I think they have a good shot this year if they can get over the "big game" hump. If they can't do it this year with the talent they are returning I'm not sure when they'll be able to under Jones. Hope you guys have a great year! TN fans deserve a good season.
Man you have a lot of hate for coach B. Some might say this is a clinical case of inFATuation! I really don't understand it. Was coach B even mentioned in this article? To address your points. Jones took over a 5-7 team. Bielema took over a 4-8 team that was an absolute dumpster fire after Petrino. So I guess I'm the "idiot" because I can say without a doubt that the Ark program was in worse shape. Jones has recruited head and shoulders over Bielema therefore the truth is the team should be much more talented. However both teams finished with 5-3 SEC records last year. Vols LONE signature win was over the Bulldogs and we all know the troubles they were having. Vols SEC wins were GA, KY, SC, MO and Vandy. Arks SEC wins were TN (first SEC road win under Bielema), AU, Ole Miss, LSU, MO. Based on this would you say Jones has done an outstanding job to date? Would you not agree Coach B has done more with less talent? I know the answer to both but based on how you resorted to calling "bayou tiger" a fool I really do not expect a dignified response. All of that to say I think TN will be better than Ark this year. No doubt about it. TN returns almost the entire team. Ark lost 5 offensive players to the NFL including QB, both 1000 yd backs, Mackey award winning TE and three offensive lineman. I don't think there is an honest Ark fan that does not expect a step back this year. However, until TN actually beats someone I'm not sold yet. By the way Ark lost 14-13 to AL in 2014. That CLOSE loss didn't make them a better team in 2015. So good luck to your team and good luck with your little problem!
This isn't just Miss St. Happens at other schools and in the pros too. Goes to show you if you have talent not much else matters. The question isn't if the NCAA or SEC allows it. As a society where have our morals gone? This isn't like being caught stealing or something. Hope this young man appreciates the chance he is being given and learns his lesson.
Classy response! LF had some issues out of the gate. It's obvious he's learned from them and leading by example. As much as we get caught up in it, these are young guys prone to mistakes. I honestly can't imagine how tough it would be to be 18 yrs old and have to watch everything I say or post. We all said things when we were young we regretted. I don't envy these kids with social media. Wish LF the best of luck this year, except when he plays us.
Bielema was actually my first thought too but when does he ever do anything anonymous? Also, didn't seem like a shot to me. I'm predicting Ark will be down. Is that a shot? And let's be honest...if it's anonymous it could be complete BS. Unless I missed it does it say head coach? Could be anyone!
this wasn't any kind of list indicating which back was better, just those playing that remind them of running backs in the past.
While I'm not disputing the ranking here I can't really think of a team that had more defenders in the box to stop the run than Arkansas. No one was worried about the passing game beating them. I'd say you get 7 and 8 SEC defenders in the box and I would assume the average would drastically reduce. Even with that said I believe GA had the best line last year.
I am not being pessimistic but I would not be surprised at all if the Razorbacks finish with the same schedule as last year and still be an improved team. There are no easy wins on the SEC schedule. And I don't know who other than the media thinks Arkansas is honestly going to win the West this year. If you watch any of the games from last year, on defense they call the names of Flowers, Philon and Spaight almost every play and those guys are gone. I hope I'm wrong but with this schedule I'd say 8 wins is a good season. Here's to being realistic and hoping to be surprised!
Completely agree. I wouldn't bet against either one of them. The stress that comes with almost any coaching job at a high profile school is incredible. The more success you have the more is expected. There is no way it can be sustained. They make the money but I'm betting the stress is taking years off their life.
