Lifelong Mizzou fan of all sports. If I'd had more ambition during high school & just after, I would've enjoyed attending Missouri's outstanding School of Journalism. But, I joined the Air Force in '72 instead. In late '70's started working for 3M Company & have been with them for over 34 years now. Married, 1 son, 4 daughters & 16...soon to be 17...grandchildren!

Nothing wrong with "bold" predictions. But I draw a line when it comes to "rapper" predictions... Tenn winning the east...LOLOLOLOL, that's just Ludicris & not worth 50 cents! Vols 7-5 at best, 3rd in the East, & will lose @ Mizzou by 25.
I understand the 2 coaches you have on your Mt Rushmore, (with Pinkel rightfully someday possibly replacing Devine...if an SEC championship). And C. Daniel & B. Smith are 2 of my ALL-TIME favorite Mizzou players...they did so much to promote Mizzou in a good way on & off the field! But one of them should be replace by Kellen Winslow. He didn't earn the title "All-Universe TE" for nothing! At both Mizzou & at San Diego during his pro days, he transformed the TE position all by himself. He was A FORCE to deal with, & no one every really figured out how to do it! So he definitely should be there, I just don't know which QB to remove. One final thought.... I have 2 Honorable Mention players I must include in this conversation. Jeremy Maclin, who made Chase Daniel's job MUCH easier, & also continues to improve in a successful pro career....and Henry Josey. Josey is the epitome of these things that coaches love... "team player" "grit" "determination" "inspiration" "talent" "can carry a team on his back". I watched Josey climbing up the Heismann charts his sophomore year, only to suffer a freakish & horrendous injury. We all thought he was done for life with football. He didn't,...& he worked HARD, all the while (1 1/2 years!) inspiring teammates, & coaches. And then we all saw him early in his first season back, take the hand off, do some of those old familiar jukes with his feet & body............AND HE WAS GONE! TD Mizzou! Dang...I get teary eyed & the hair stands up on my arms just thinking about that first long run! Thank you Henry, for being the great person you are & for being a Missouri Tiger.
Sometimes I really wonder about SDS writers. Blaine Gabbert? Blaine "The Diva" Gabbert? Blaine "I really wanted to play at Nebraska" Gabbert? Blaine "I will curl up in a ball & fall down as soon as I hear any def players footsteps within 5 feet of me" Gabbert? Chris....did you do ANY RESEARCH at all with some of these choices? Ever heard of Jeremy Maclin?
zoucat....... you are the hammer, Athlon is the nail. Bammm! A&M, Miss. St. & Tenn ...I mean, TENNESSEE!...all listed in the Top 25 & no Mizzou? All 3 of those teams will end up with a worse record than the Old Gold n' Black. And while we are at it, let's throw the way overrated Arky team in with that mediocre bunch.
Doing a "LOL" here would be rude against your Vols. So I'll just have a mild chortle, a sarcastic snicker...and maybe a robust guffaw. Tenn 6-6...tops! M....I....Z.....
You do understand why you said what you did, right? Because deep down in your heart & in your gut YOU KNOW your Vols are not ready. Next year they will likely challenge Georgia & Mizzou & whoever... but not this year. Zou players, coaches & fans are loving all of these predictions of Tenn being better than them this season. Fuel for the coming fire on Nov. 21st ....in Columbia, Mo. Your team can't imagine what they will be walking into.
Let's see..... Mizzou at 17, Georgia at 18 & goofy Tennessee no where to be found. Hmmm...looks like somebody's finally catching on! An Old Gold n' Black three-peat just waiting to happen.
And somehow, not one Mizzou def player in the bunch. Hmmm...SDS strikes again. You idiots love ignoring Missouri, don't you?
Where do these "writers" (used loosely here) come from for SDS? Do they actually have degrees of ANY KIND? Have they ever dug into the juicy behind the scenes info for various schools.... pretty sure that last answer will be, "Not a chance." To say that Mizzou doesn't compare favorable to "Florida, Georgia Tenn, putting the program at an inherent disadvantage on some level every year",.... sounds odd, knowing who has won that division the past 2 years, is only an improved Maty Mauk (Zou QB) away from winning it again this year. With our Tigers WAY OUT on the Northwestern fringe of the SEC, maybe you haven't heard what is going on there... they are "all in" on football now-a-days! Get a clue, & get used to it.
I firmly expected to see Mizzou's Gary Pinkel at the VERY TOP of your list! Kept scrolling down....& down farther, & dowwn even farther. Your assessment of his future job status at Missouri is completely laughable. He has not only built a fan base that was lacking, who now worship the ground he walks, but he his staff have built a winning system (Mizzou Made) that turns basic 3 star players into All-Sec types who garner serious NFL attention. My main point is this.... virtually all of his close family members have moved to the beautiful & serene little college town of Columbia, Mo., to enjoy the great combined atmosphere of winning many ball games AND knowing you have job security FOR LIFE! I.E. he had a chance at his "dream job" of going back to Washington U., where he started with Don James, but he turned it down. That tells people at Mizzou he is uber happy right where he is at!
8 out of 10... not bad. That was a cool quiz!
Since you barely did Mizzou's research, I don't trust that you have the other schools golden eras correct either. '39-'42??? C'mon, everybody knows Mizzou was a national power in the '60's under Dan Devine. (albeit, no natl championships) Devine's overall record is much better than Faurot's, but Don Faurot is considered "the father of the Mizzou football program" because of his many good seasons AND all the off the field things he did for the entire univ. PLUS, interrupting his ever-growing program in the early 40's to enlist in the military for several years. Gary Pinkel is likely diercting Mizzou through it's best "golden era" right now, IF he can just get that one elusive SEC championship under his belt!
This synopsis of Mizzou's critical needs was on the nose. Finding dependable WR's & Mauk's pocket presence are crucial in defending their back-to-back SEC East titles & having another shot at the West in the finale. Also, the O-line gelling well enough to find a comfort zone for Mauk to take 1-2 more seconds in finding receivers, is inportant...but after watching him get 'happy feet' very quickly almost all of last season, I think that task should be put on Mauk's shoulders (& his asst coach) just as much. The solid strengths of this Mizzou team will be the running game & a stout defense. The latter, only if the D players show the new Def Cood as much love & loyalty as they did for the amazing Dave Steckel!
I don't get it....can someone enlighten me? ALL of the early preseason predictors, including this one, are basically saying Ole Miss, Tenn, LSU & Arky will be better than Mizzou. Pretty much doing the same-o same-o as the LAST 2 FRIGGIN' YEARS!! I completely understand that the Tigers have not won the SEC yet...along with losing horribly to Indiana & Georgia, but they did win the supposedly weaker (now debatable) EAST twice in a row. I hope very much that Coach Pinkel & his underrated staff & team plaster all of this prediction crap all over their training areas, & end up with better W-L records than Ole Miss & LSU, while also pounding Tenn & Arky into a fine powder on the field! Signed, No longer rebuild, we just reload.
A team & their fans know they are relevant when a fan of a prestigious football factory like Alabama, obsesses over you by constantly posting 4th grade rhetoric aimed at your fans. It's become very apparent that Bamatime is a closeted Mizzou fan. Dude, psychologists have studied your kind for 100 years. Just go ahead & break out the Old Gold N' Black banner, ...hang it right next to the Crimson one, it's okay to root for 2 teams, ya know.
Celo....you are the hammer, Bamatime is the nails.
While it's commendable of your teams many championships, people who can't really count the proper number of Natl Championships that team has actually won, ...and cry heartily when they are corrected....should not "live in glass houses while throwing stones".
Well Daniel, do you know why? Mizzou was "estimated" as finishing 5th or 6th in the East 2 years ago...and 3rd or 4th last year. Where did they finish again? Answer....the same place they will finish this season.
Exactly. Fuel for the fire.......again! Men of Zou ranked behind Tenn, Tex A&M, Arky..... get real SDS, you are embarassing yourself. Mizzou has become a team that "re-loads", instead of having to take time to re-build as in years past.
And more "bulletin board material" is posted in Columbia, MO. ....... Just FUEL FOR THE FIRE in 2015! Men of Zou will feed off of all this Tenn & Georgia winning the East crap.
Agree, Wolf. And here is something people (media) don't really talk about. The Tigers could have easily folded up shop after 2 bad losses early to Indy (OMG!!) and a severe butt whippin' AT HOME, in front of national TV audience, to Georgia. But the Men of Zou decided screw that, & came together to win ALL the rest of their games for that 2nd East title in a row! Not to many teams across the country can do that...especially win so many games on the road as Mizzou has done.
And that 5-star QB is coming soon in one Drew Lock! (even though officially he's a 4-star.)
Absolutely agree, Mizzou All Day! And here is something I have thought since the middle of the season... what if (somehow) DGB would've straightened his act up last year, & still been a vital member of this 2014 Mizzou squad? DAAAAMMNN! He would have set a SEC record for number of TD recep...AND Mauk would have been a much more confident passer all season, especially in the red zone! Jump ball TD...after jump ball TD.....after jump ball TD!! Indiana would not have had a prayer & the Georgia game would have at least been competitive. So many great things could've happened if not for the actions of one numbskull. Two final notes... I knew DGB would never play a down for Stoops. He's a "me" guy, not a team guy. Also, I know Pinkel is fiercely loyal to his QB's, but if Mauk doesn't show some improvement in various areas, he will be pushed hard by the second stringer...(is his name Prinz?)...I've heard he is a stud & possibly the future of the program, at least until future All-SEC first team QB Drew Lock gets up to speed.
I hope whoever steps into DC Steck's shoes, can come close to matching his defensive fire & talent output. I think it is going to be the D-Line Asst (name?), so that would be a good promotion. In 2015, we just need some WR's to step up & Maty Mauk to play a little more disciplined...translation = try to stay in the pocket 1-2 seconds longer to find a 2nd or 3rd WR option. RB area is loaded!!
As a die-hard Mizzou fan...even I find it a little weird that Georgia is ranked below us! They beat us to a pulp 34-0 on our own field in front of 70,000+ Tiger fans. I say both teams are ranked a little high... possible should be between 18-22, with Bulldogs 2 spots higher than my beloved Tigers. Just keepin' it real.
Exactly! And do you think he's ever even played pitch & catch with a football? I don't.
The Men of Zou were star-struck rookies on a big stage in last years SEC Ch. game vs. Auburn.... this year they are grizzled, seasoned veterans! They have put that loss AND the 2 very ugly ones earlier in the season completely behind them. Can you imagine if Missouri somehow wins this conf ch. game? (likely against Bama) Would it be THE biggest upset this year in the nation? At least in Top 3.
The Old Gold & Black of the ZouMen be rollin' along (again, like last year)..... and people still be hatin' ( ditto). 2 weeks hence, the Cock-A-Doodles of S.Caro & their fans, will be quieted for the rest of the season.
LOL! Poor Georgia & S. Carolina got SCREWED! They got ol' Verne "I shoulda retired years ago" Lundquist, & Gary "I am so prejudiced for one of these teams" Danielson! THE ABSOLUTE WORST football announcers in the entire country!!!!!!!!
You have Mizzou lower ranked than Tenn & Miss St.? ......LAUGHABLE. Mizzou took on a team that is always in the upper echelon of the FCS. So. Dak. St. went into Lincoln Ne., (aka the Sea of Red!) just 2-3 years ago & darn near beat them! Granted, the Tiger defense, except for Markus Golden, looked anemic & heralded QB Maty Mauk looked often times unimpressive.... but coaches always say the biggest improvement usually comes between the first & second game. Mizzou has a recent history of playing well on the road, so I look for them to TCB @Toledo & win that one comfortably....even though I see they are only a 6 point favorite.
