Kwon Alexander is at the combine.
Pretty hard for LSU to replace two starting LBs, especially when you're only losing one; Welter lost his job to KB during the season. Kwon leaves a huge void, but I think the biggest hits will be the DEs - assuming Hunter leaves as believed (also assuming that we can retain at least Vadal or Hawkins). Oh what I'd give to have a Mingo/Montgomery quality tandem again. Give us a QB first, though. And as Mizzou Made mentioned above - I too think Arkansas is going to be quite dangerous going forward. They've been playing angry and they've been playing very well.
This is going to be such a good game. People have been saying how underrated Arkansas is all year, and the Razorbacks are finally getting some due recognition. It pained me to watch Arkansas manhandle LSU last week, but they were long past due for their streak to end and LSU hardly showed up to play offensively. Arkansas didn't have too much trouble moving the ball on us either, ground or air. After seeing the close games Arkansas has had with A&M, Bama, and MSU, I honestly can't wait to see how this one plays out.
I appreciate you telling me what someone else's comment inferred. Do you offer mind reading lessons? One could produce either of our reactions from such a comment, to be as honest as my apparent idiocy allows. If you'll reread the comment and take into consideration my usage of "if" and "could," any person with basic literacy skills could determine that I was not making the de facto statement "this is what they're saying about poor Jalen, oh-em-gee you guys." It was more or less an assumed perspective, which was an overreaction in my part. If I apologize do I get my intelligence back from you? Again: I was more or less making an argument about my supposed perception, according to the original comment, about the undervaluing of a player's versatility. Yes, specialization is important and that's why players choose from various positions, but Mills could start at either secondary position at pretty much any school. I'm going to take your short spat of hate with a few grains of salt.
So a corner-converted-safety is considered a "tweener" - I think I get it now. Apologies for the "homer" comment, but this is just ridiculous. Who cares if Jalen Mills was recruited at one position and now plays a different one - while filling in at his original position occasionally? Since when has showing the ability to play multiple positions become a bad attribute? I'd rather have a well-rounded "Defensive Back" than someone who can strictly only play Corner/Safety. But according to the above comment, I guess the proper nickname for LSU should be "Tweener University." You'd think that with the limited number of NFL roster slots, versatility should be a boon in Mills' case (no one penalizes an offensive lineman for being able to play guard and center; it's actually viewed as a major complement to the player's ability) considering the yearly amount of injuries, suspensions, ejections, etc. LSU's DB's are encouraged to learn all applicable roles - it allows for faster/more playing time and it creates a more rounded athlete. Typical standout DB's from LSU have playing experience at Corner/Nickel/Dime/Safety (or most, if not all). Dwayne Thomas began learning Safety this preseason in order to increase versatility and potentially see more playing time in the future (get well soon, #13). I can't see Jalen's on-field performance as cause for concern; however, anyone with a computer/television/smartphone/radio could see it as a cover for his off-field issues. If Mills' stock is perceived as dropped due to legal issues (which would be perfectly understandable in light of recent events), then say so. Don't discredit the kid's game (and he has proven he CAN ball at the different positions he's played) in order to mask a different issue if that's the case. At this rate, Melvin Jones will never get any credit playing Fullback. *rolls eyes*
Indeed, but if you actually read the article, it clearly mentions top ten teams' losses during night games at Tiger Stadium. Dreams were killed during this year's MSU/LSU matchup, but MSU was playing the dream killer since they were unranked at the time (which they honestly should have been ranked before that game). Don't comment on articles solely to prove homer status.
Will you please post a link to the game where we played Nebraska in Death Valley? I'd love to watch it. Oh that's right - that never happened. But you hit the nail on the head in reference to Les' near-blind loyalty to seniority - no matter if that "seniority" is single-digit starts compared to a true freshman with none. The entire country would have have loved to see 3 quarters of Brandon Harris on the field against MSU. Hell, I'd have been happy with one complete quarter. Hell, look at our situation with DJ Welter - the guy who let NMSU's QB run right past him for a long TD. The kid has some flashes of hope, but provides plenty of streaks involving LSU fans banging their heads against the wall out of frustration. As for last week, though: LSU didn't show up to play (aside from a now-obvious QB mistake from Miles), and MSU did - plain and simple. They obviously wanted the "W," and took one home for MSU's first win in the series in over a decade; I'll give credit where it's due.
LSU's ranking was based on opponent and opponent's ranking, to be honest. The uber come-from-behind victory also had a hand in the ranking above. In MSU's case, I can't say I blame the writer - please show me an SEC team that should not put 49 points up on USM. I didn't watch this game because I felt that it would be a waste of time, and the outcome matched my expectations. Sure, MSU is chomping at the bit to show what they've got in 2014 (and I think they have a show in store for some conference teams this year), but I'm not the lone football fan in the country who thinks that shutting out a team who has won only one game in two seasons is impressive enough to eclipse LSU's opponent or the impressive comeback. As for Ole Miss, I'll say that the defense was stifling - Broncos just couldn't hang with y'all. I cannot stand the Rebs, but they played well considering those awful interceptions. Also not impressive to blow out a declining Mountain West team. I was wondering if Bo was color blind (insert screenshot of Freeze holding up his three fingers in disbelief). So as for "how can LSU be that high" : LSU dug their seemingly early grave, but they clawed and fought out of it until the end. They played sloppy run defense and couldn't find their offensive spark until late in the game (which is pretty much the story for your guys' game in Atlanta, offensively speaking). Truth of the matter is that none of the three teams played a quality SEC opponent this week, so LSU got the nod playing the higher quality Power 5 team. MSU and Ole Miss both have alot of returning vets and this will be a very interesting season for the SEC West, but I will keep my faith with our young Tigers. If you're going to get mad about the Week 1 rankings after a shoddy performance, I'd hate to see you comment later in the season after some true heartache. Geaux TIgers. Also, I'd like to see Ole Miss go on an unanswered run while facing a 6% probability to pull out the win.
