I came here to say that, but you beat me to it. War Eagle!
I agree. I think that's why they put one on Facebook.
I would say Georgia Tech has a more technical fanbase. Technical people are usually great at math and science but ignore grammar and spelling. This list is based off of spelling and grammar, which is something at which I excel. I would say I’m not great at math and science, but the perfect score on my college physics final would suggest that is not the case. Ergo, Grammar does not necessarily mean level of intelligence. I have no doubt there is significant intelligence in an average Tech fan.
Average state of Mississippi illiteracy is 15%. Rate of high-school dropouts is 18.9%. Only about 20% of the population has a bachelor's degree. I see a correlation there, which some may argue. Apparently 6.6% of adults didn't make it through 9th grade. :( I would assume that if you make it to 9th grade, you can read, though. (Info found on FoxBusiness.com)
Don't use Georgia Tech as an example. Technical people are usually great at math and science but ignore grammar and spelling. This is based off of spelling and grammar, which is something at which I excel. I would say I'm not great at math and science, but the perfect score on my college physics final would suggest that is not the case.
Have you ever heard of John Grisham? William Faulkner? Tennessee Williams? All were born and raised in Mississippi.
@ADB, you do realize that being an @sshole and being a bad@ss are not the same thing, right?!
Let me guess, you're a sidewalk fan, aren't you? Ever been to Georgia as a student? Actually, have you ever been a college student anywhere?
Things of the Redcoat band have changed, unfortunately. For the 45 minutes we (AUMB) sat in the stadium before pregame, the redcoat band chanted "F*CK YOU AUBURN!" constantly in 2006.
My family recently made the trip to Kansas State for the Auburn game. My father wrote a letter to the editor stating that they enjoyed themselves, but not the obnoxious fans they encountered. (It was significantly more eloquent, though.) The Kansas State newspaper printed his letter. Several days later, my father received a letter from the relatively new head football coach saying thanks, we will work on it. I say that to say, I am glad your AD is taking notice, and maybe if his position on this has an effect, all schools will benefit.
Second it all you want, every team has crap fans. Just from '06 -'08: The entire Georgia band chanted "F*CK YOU AUBURN" for 45 minutes before kickoff. The next year a six-year-old Georgia fan told me how much Auburn "f*cking suck's" while his parents encouraged him. There were students in the dorms at Florida who threw water balloons full of urine at us after we won. We counted 64 middle fingers aimed at us as we drove into Baton Rouge from 5-year-olds to 95-year-old ladies. I was swarmed and physically and verbally harassed in Tuscaloosa while waiting for my brother, an Auburn player, to walk from the stadium to the bus. The Arkansas mascot handlers decided that the best place for the hogs was directly in front of us so the lower 2 levels couldn't see the game or breathe anything but pig crap. The Ole Miss fans boo-ed, cussed, and harrassed us constantly during the game. They must not have been real fans, because they were so rude to us they couldn't have had time to actually watch the game. Every team has crap fans, including my own. Let's stop pretending it doesn't exist and try fixing it.
I was in the band at Auburn and traveled to nearly every other SEC stadium. After we won the South Carolina game in 2006 in Columbia, we were told "Y'all win the championship for us" and "Great game." I think every team has great fans and every team has crappy fans.
And this guy, right here knows his history. Thank you.
While I agree that words like "all, every, never," and other ultimate words are very rarely true, I think you missed his point. When I was in school at Auburn, I was in the band. The first time a band member wearing band gear is caught cussing, they are disciplined. The second time, that person is kicked out. It is not an image we want associated with our band. Apparently, this isn't the case at Georgia. Usually, the band is seated in the stadium before 90% of the fans. For the first 45 minutes of our visit to Athens the Georgia band chanted "f*ck you Auburn" again and again and again. Are you proud of that being the way ~500 students wearing official college affiliated gear represented your school? Are you proud that the next year as we, in our band uniforms, left OUR stadium, we were taunted and cussed out by a 5-year-old? This is a problem and it's only getting worse.
You folks do realize that you're defending an SEC bias that doesn't exist by commenting on an article, if you can call it that, that will only be read by those who are fans of the SEC, right? That's like going to a lake complaining about folks who hate lakes. I'm pretty sure we all agree that an SEC bias is a load of crap, because the SEC is simply the best.
Yeah, we all do. Apparently the players hate them too. They always seem to play worse for early games.
