As long as we can agree that, to avoid confusion, Tenn is UT and Texas is t.u. the rest will sort itself out.
Exactly. The three schools that had the ability to get away from Texas did. Not because of Longhorn performance on the field, but because of their double dealing in the conference board room. At the formation of the Big12, Nebraska was a juggernaut. They figured they'd rule the Big12 like they did the Big8. Instead, UT determined their weakness and used it to kill Nebraska from within by getting the other members to vote to eliminate Prop48 athletes. UT will find Bama's Achilles heel and conspire with Auburn, Tenn, etc. to knock them off. Hell, they already got the SEC to screw A&M, Arkansas, and Missouri by working on the expansion without them being included. I'm sure Bama thinks it can't happen to them... Cornhuskers thought so too.
Well said Mr. Sattell! Texas is toxic. When the Big12 was formed, it was all kumbaya for about 5 minutes before Texas worked to kill Nebraska from within. Once in the SEC Texas will do the same to Bama. Nebraska never thought it would happen to them either. Texas will find Bama's weakness and conspire with the Tennessee's and MSU's of the world to bring it to fruition. Then, before you know it, Texas will be turning each member against the other until the conference is nothing but a dysfunctional mess. Ask Arkansas. They left Texas 30 years ago for these exact same reasons. Nebraska left 11 years ago for these exact same reasons. Look at Colorado, they left 11 years ago because they thought Texas was going with them to the PAC, only to have Texas pull out of the deal at the last minute. Now Colorado is stuck in the PAC without the Big 12 members it expected to be joining them in the move. They've become the PAC 12's appendix. Ask Missouri. When Missouri expressed its concern Texas AD DeLoss Dodds famously cast shade at the Tigers by claiming UT's bad years were better than Missouri's good years. Ask A&M. Texas told the Big12 the LHN would only broadcast 1 non-conference home game per year to get the league to approved their Tier 3 deal. Once it was approved, they found a way to get additional games on the network by strong-arming the commissioner and getting Fox to grant ESPN a waiver on game scheduling. When A&M balked at the LHN airing high school football games featuring UT recruits, A&M had to get the NCAA to rule on it because the Big12 commissioner refused to consider acting contrary to Texas' wishes. It sounds like Sankey has been working on this without the full knowledge of all SEC schools. Do you think Texas won't use that as leverage against him later? There are many more stories like this. All the money in the world isn't worth it. And don't get me started on the refs.
What a clown show. Gus was a frustrating coach but canning him without an upgrade already teed up is a major fail.
I have no problem with Pollack's take. I think his position really invalidates Ohio State's inclusion. 6 games? 2 road games? The regular season is a battle of attrition. To let a team in that played 30% fewer games than the next best option (A&M) is bunk AF.
