Agreed on the talent part. I thought this team would go 0-10 to start the year and I still do. I just don't think they will get blown out by 30 points in every game like I thought they might. There will be games they get blown out in, just not all of them like I had previously thought.
First off I misintrepted what AY/A is thinking it was average yard/attempt so my bad. Other than that I agree with everything you said. I wanted Mason fired after the Temple debacle in 2014. Once again I don't think Seals is going to be the next Jay Cutler or anything but to me he was way better than Neal in just 1 game. I slightly beg to differ on if Mason can actually coach but yes the Summer of 2013 changed Vandy football in regards to how the University sees the program and what it should (in this case shouldn't) do to support it. I also have a slightly differing view on the Goldfather. Nice man but horrible AD in terms of running a department. He didn't believe in fundraising and had way to many titles and responsibilities. Once again not to take away anything he did at VU but I just thought he wasn't a good AD.
How do you also know that VU wasn't using all of their playbook. Once again an 18 year true freshman QB starting from day one. You think he even can grasp the entire playbook. Add in the fact its a new OC, the team itself might not even know the entire playbook in a way the OC wants especially with the reduced practice time in the Spring and Summer and Fall Camp with a new OC
No don't take this response and think that I think VU will win games this year. I still think they are very limited and will struggle to win a single SEC game this season. However, did you watch VU play last year? Analytical you Say Riley Neal was better and you use Average yards per attempt, which isn't necessarily what people would call "analytics". Look at QBR which takes into account more advanced numbers and situations and Ken Seal's QBR of 58.9 was higher than all but two SEC games from Riley Neal last year. One of those games Neal threw 4 passes before leaving the game. Also, keep in mind this was an 18 year old Freshman playing against A&M in his first collegiate game with a bad OL and didn't have a true offseason summer due to COVID. Your math for AY/A is just wrong and doesn't make sense when comparing Seal's game with NEal's UGA game. So Neal was 20/29 and sacked twice. Mind you the 29 attempts does account for the 2 interceptions. If you take into account the yards lost on the sacks (which I don't agree with because sacks aren't always the QBs fault) (150-18)/(29+2)= 4.25 AY/A. That number is higher than your 2.8 you are talking about. For the Neal game you reference, why didn't you take into account the number of times he was sacked? He was sacked twice for minus 22 yards. Therefore his numbers would 14/25 for 85 yards with 2 sacks. AY/A=(85-22)/(25+2)=2.333. My point is if you take everything into account, Seals had a better game than Neal probably ever did at VU. And just watching them you can also tell that Seals will be a better QB just by the eye test. I'm not saying Seals is going to win a Heisman or anything but comparing him to Neal and saying he is worse is just BS.
This article is completely wrong. Mimms' decommitment had nothing to do with Andy Ludwig leaving. There is a reason they went after and signed Kenyon Brooks right before the first NSD. To any VU fan that follows recruiting, this is not a big shock.
Please explain to me how a player you say needs to gain weight can immediately help out VU? You say he is listed as a TE prospect but is expected to play OL (which is true), which combined with your statement saying he needs to gain weight pretty much reads that he won't make an impact. If you think a TE can make an impact next year on this team, do some research and realize there are 3 other prospects who are actually TE prospects (Bapst is going to play OL from the beginning) in DeCoursey, Blake, and Ball. Not just because he is the highest ranked commitment, but Anfernee Orji will have an opportunity to make an impact. He is a saftey/LB hybrid which is a position where VU will have some players leave and at times struggled this past season.
How do you rank Bama 6th (up from 7th) after they blew a 21 point lead at home to Georgia State? This team also lost to Northeastern at home by 16. Yes Arizona is a pretty good win, but it is not like Arizona has beaten anyone this year. I realize it is hard to rank teams this early in the year, but losing at home after having a 21 point lead to a Sun Belt team does not merit moving up in the rankings just because you beat a decent Arizona team by a few possessions. According to Kenpom, Sagarin, and NET the following teams ranked below Bama by SDS are all ranked above Bama: Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt.
No disrespect to anyone else on the list but how could Zach Cunningham be left off? He leads the SEC in tackles (35 ahead of Adams, 37 ahead of Davis) and tackles for loss. He is also tied for 2nd in the country in tackles for loss and 11th in total tackles per game. Zach is the best player on that defense and one of the best LB's in the country.
