Don't watch? Don't worry...most people won't. The point is, I think the two teams in the championship game deserve to be there. I, and many, many others throughout the college football world believe that. But it doesn't make the game any more appealing. And if SEC, Georgia, and Alabama fans were honest with themselves, they know they'd feel the same way. The game, for a vast amount of college football fans do not care about Monday night's game. I also don't understand the SEC mentality when it comes to being a die hard fan of a conference, only second to a favorite team. I can see supporting the conference. But it's funny how the bottom dweller SEC teams have fans that pretend like being a fan of the conference somehow adds legitimacy to their favorite programs. Hey, Vandy fans, Mizzou fans, or, for the past couple seasons now, LSU fans (LOL...just kidding...sort of) your loyalty to a conference doesn't make your teams any better. Brag if you want to...but those teams aren't any better just because of an allegiance to a conference that, with a few notable exceptions, has been (for almost 15 years now) represented by one super, monumentally successful juggernaut of a team The two Florida national championships are becoming a distant memory. Auburn and LSU...their championship seasons were impressive, no doubt. But they also proved to be anomalies, their head coaches gone within two seasons. There were many of us who came to this website a few years ago who tried to tell some of the delusional and embarrassingly arrogant LSU fans (there were even some fans from other SEC teams that were saying the same thing) that the new Gene Chizik (a.k.a. Ed Orgeron) represented the very definition of the word "overachieve." They wouldn't hear any of it. It's hilarious when I remember some of the things they were saying. A few examples: "LSU is a top the college football world now, and a top is where they'll stay," and, "Alabama has now passed the torch to LSU." Man, were they WRONG. What a pipe dream. The bottom line is, while the SEC is the best college football conference, it's largely benefitted from the spoils of one, lone assassin for the better part of, nearly, a quarter century (meaning, more than half of the 21st century, so far, which probably includes Monday night). And they have only failed to take down a few of their targets. For the most part, they have been indiscriminate sharpshooters. Congrats to them and the Bulldogs on Monday night. I'd like to think it could be a competitive game. However, something tells me it probably won't be. What's that "something?" Oh yeah...the fact that Georgia had their proverbial clocks cleaned. And yes, the Bulldogs crushed Michigan. Sort of like the Wolverines crushed OSU and Iowa. They were highly emotional games, and a few weeks after that, Michigan just didn't have that same spark or energy. I fear Georgia's emotional beat down they inflicted may have taken its toll. I could be wrong...I admit that. But I don't think I am. Regardless of all of that, the fact that it's going to be a rematch between two teams from the same conference, and we've already seen part 1, which was a systematic slaughter, no one outside the SEC cares. And the ratings will show that. That's not whining. It's the truth.
Meant "the new Vanderbilt Football program of the East Division," but you get the picture.
Yeah...I know what you mean. The only thing that is more fun for me, is watching the Missouri football team (a.k.a. the Vanderbilt Football program of the East Division) drown in the SEC year after year. It's funny how you Mizzou fans thought the two back-to-back division championships in '13 and '14 were an indication that the Tigers actually do belong in the SEC. And then, starting with the '15 season, a cold, dark reality set in. In the past 7 years, Missouri football has posted a record of 41 wins, and 42 losses overall, and 22 wins and 36 losses in conference play. What a hoot. You know, I'm sure that if Missouri administrators and coaches want to stop the bleeding, they could call out to the MAC or the Sun Belt conference. Missouri would fit in quite nicely in either of those conferences.
To all the LSU fans who thought last year was the beginning of some sort of dynasty: Perhaps a little humility could have served you well after last year. You know...enjoy what happened in 2019, and understand that seasons like that are very special, and don't come around very often for most teams. Instead you got cocky and obnoxious, as if from 2019 on, everyone should just accept some silly notion that the Tigers were going to rule the college football world from now on. How does the crow taste? Does it go well with humble pie?
It's comments like this that make so many people angry when it comes to the SEC. Clemson and OSU have been very good since the playoff began. And the SEC has put 8 teams in the playoffs, and Bama has 2 rings, and LSU has one ring. Clemson and Ohio State...you know, the two teams you so easily dismiss because they don't play in the SEC...have 3 rings combined (with OSU about to get another one on Monday).
9 - 1...That's Alabama's record against LSU over the last 10 games they've played each other (including a 55-17 thrashing in 2020). And most of Bama's wins during that stretch have been woodshed beatings, including 3 shutouts. You can include the lone win in the last 10 meetings, and Bama has still outscored LSU 289-131. That's more than just winning. That's ownership.
Good call on all of this. You were right about LSU...They were middle of the pack in 2018 and in 2020 with one good year in between. Also good call on picking LSU losing to Auburn, Bama, and Texas A&M in 2020. Looks like Orgeron may not be as "elite" as LSU fans were claiming.
Yes...It's a raging inferno at this point. This has to be one of the most epically horrendous free falls I've ever seen from a defending national champion. And I've been watching college football for almost 40 years now.
Perfect analogy. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a defending national champion as pathetic as LSU is this year. And it wouldn't be as pathetic if it wasn't for all the LSU fans who came to this website after the Tigers won last year talking about how LSU was at the top of the football world, and they were there to stay. And some of them were proclaiming that LSU had taken over the SEC West and have become the new Alabama. Some of the more level-headed football fans here were trying to tell some of the more deluded Tiger fans that they should be happy with what LSU accomplished last season, and that seasons like that are very rare (unlesss you're Alabama fans). They didn't want to hear it though...and some of them were even trying to claim that Orgeron had become some sort of football genius. It kind of looks like he might be the second coming of Gene Chizik now.
