You actually make the point that proves they’re right. Before playoffs, SEC didn’t dominate. You know, back when it was all writers opinions and didn’t require playing for it. “When they were crowned by public opinion, or based on pollsters, they didn’t succeed. Once it required beating others to claim, they did it in spades” doesn’t have the ring you think it does.

True. But I’d willingly concede that a team is championship caliber if they run the table in 4 games of top 16 quality. It’s harder to make the case when a scrub starts with a lucky upset in a field of 4. But doing it four times in a row, over top tier, it’s pretty much impossible to say “they aren’t championship caliber.”
