Antonio Callaway plunged to the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft before Cleveland pulled the trigger, and he may have found the perfect situation.

Less than two weeks into training camp, Callaway now sits atop the Browns wide receiver depth chart. Jarvis Landry is penciled in as the starter opposite Callaway.

The Browns cleared the way for Callaway to become a major impact rookie when they traded fellow pass catcher Corey Coleman to the Bills for a draft pick. Coleman was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Though Coleman’s trade had a hand in helping Callaway rise on the depth chart, his play has been the biggest reason he’s a projected starter. Per ClevelandBrowns.com, Callaway has been getting the best of defensive backs already.

Despite missing all of the final season of his college football career because of off-field issues and most of OTAs and minicamp because of injuries, Callaway has repeatedly impressed during training camp. He’s gotten the best out of most of the team’s cornerbacks in one-on-one drills and delivered a long catch with the first-team offense during Saturday’s mock game.

Callaway’s talent at Florida was obvious, and he will likely end up being the best signee of the Jim McElwain era. Callaway was suspended for the entire 2017 season for his role in a credit-card fraud case, but when he was on the field, he was as dynamic as he wanted to be.

Callaway will get his first chance to impress Thursday night in Cleveland’s first preseason game against the Giants.
