Brenton Cox, one of the best pass rushers in the SEC, announced his intentions for the 2022 season on Sunday on social media.

Cox wrote that he will return to Florida and not enter the 2022 NFL Draft. Cox led the Gators in both sacks (8.5) and tackles for a loss (14.5) as a redshirt junior. Cox started at BUCK in every game this past season, and had a program record and career-high 4 sacks, along with a forced fumble and quarterback hurry against Florida State. The Stockbridge, Georgia native has proven to be a key member of the Florida defense after his transfer from Georgia following the 2018 season when he played in 13 games for the Bulldogs.

“As I return for my redshirt senior season, I promise that I will continue to grow, improve, and not let up,” Cox wrote in his announcement. “I look forward to my teammates and I accomplishing our goals on and off the field and making the Gator Nation proud. I’m ready to take over the 2022 season and compete for a national championship title. I am excited for us to go after it and give it all we got.”

Cox will be a big addition for a Florida defensive line in 2022 that has lost the likes of defensive end Zachary Carter and defensive tackles Antonio Valentino, Daquan Newkirk and Tyrone Truesdell.
