Florida is still playing the waiting game with wide receiver transfer Van Jefferson and the NCAA.

Head coach Dan Mullen called Jefferson a playmaker Tuesday at SEC Media Days but the program is still in a wait and see mode at the moment when it comes to his status for the 2018 season.

“Hopefully in the near future we’ll be able to explain what’s going on,” Mullen said.

Jefferson announced he would transfer to Florida last December after the NCAA sanctions were handed down against Ole Miss which included a bowl ban.

While the SEC recently changed its rules surrounding graduate transfers, undergraduates still have to sit out a year unless there are special circumstances. CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd had previously reported in late May that the Gators would hear back on Jefferson’s case soon, but that decision about his immediate eligibility still hasn’t been made.

He has the ability to immediately enhance the skill level of the Gators’ wide receiving corps, even if the player throwing the ball to them hasn’t been decided yet.

Jefferson caught 49 balls for 543 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2016 and made 42 catches for 456 yards and a single touchdown last fall. He was a 4-star recruit and ranked as the No. 11 wide receiver nationally in the Class of 2015, according to 247Sports.
