Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson was held out of the Gators’ 31-29 loss to top-ranked Alabama on Saturday, as he continues to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered a week earlier against South Florida.

On Monday, during his weekly press conference, Florida coach Dan Mullen was asked about the decision to sit Richardson against the Crimson Tide, as well as his status for this week’s game against Tennessee.

Mullen said an MRI taken the day before the Alabama game revealed that while Richardson was further along than they expected, he still wasn’t 100 percent and they didn’t want to risk further injury.

In terms of his availability for the Volunteers, Mulled added, “We’ll see how he responds this week.”

Richardson, a 6-4, 236-pound sophomore, has been electric for the No. 11 Gators this season.

In a backup role to Emory Jones, the Gainesville native has completed 6-of-11 passes for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns, while adding 11 carried for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns.
