Florida backup quarterback Austin Appleby is expected to start at Tennessee in Week 4 following Luke Del Rio’s injury on what he called a “dirty” play.

Del Rio took a hit to his lower leg in the third quarter of Saturday’s win over North Texas. The redshirt sophomore was unable to return to the game and head coach Jim McElwain confirmed that someone else will play next week against Tennessee.

McElwain said Del Rio’s leg “doesn’t look great and that somebody else will play” after the game. He also added that he’ll have freshmen Kyle Trask and Feleipe Franks ready.

Appleby replaced Del Rio Saturday and completed two of four passing attempts for 30 yards. The former Purdue transfer threw for 2,777 yards and 19 touchdowns in 16 games during a three-year run with the Boilermakers.
