Florida is zeroing in on Billy Napier as its next coach, and has targeted the Louisiana-Lafayette coach, according to a report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported similar news.

An announcement could come as early as this afternoon.

Napier on Saturday coached the Ragin’ Cajuns (11-1, 8-0) to their school-record 11th straight game as they went unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play for the first time. ULL will host Appalachian State in the conference championship game next Saturday.

The Cajuns improved to 32-5 since the start of the 2019 season, and ULL is also 15-1 in November games since Napier took over. The 11 wins also tied the school record for victories in a season with the Sun Belt championship game and a bowl game still to come.

Napier after the game shared his thoughts about his coaching future.

“No decision’s been made yet,” he said, per the Associated Press. “We’re certainly evaluating everything. The main thing is that our focus is on this team, this group, and the work that’s left to be done. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
