ESPN SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt may not have a dog in the fight when it comes to the Florida-UCF scheduling debate but even he believes the Knights are acting foolishly by turning down the Gators’ 2-for-1 offer.

For some reason, UCF believes the program is above accepting two road games to Gainesville in return for one home game in Orlando against an SEC program. Nevermind that USF recently agreed to the same deal with Florida and that program is in the same league as UCF.

Yes, UCF does have the nation’s longest winning streak but as Van Pelt points out, it wasn’t that long ago the UCF program went winless for an entire season.

“It’s an offer and it’s on the table. You don’t have to take it, but you ought to,” Van Pelt recently said on ESPN. “I’ve read many UCF fans ripping the audacity of the Florida offer because of where the Gators are currently ranked or their current record which conveniently ignores that in 2015, UCF didn’t win a game. Now you get to look down your nose at a team that’s won national titles in 2006 and 2008 on the field because you have a winning streak? Come on. Be reasonable.”

Van Pelt then makes an excellent point. UCF may belong in the upper echelon of the college football world where it currently sees itself but the only way to get the rest of the country to agree is to schedule these types of series, go out on the field of play and earn it. Not by simply talking about it and claiming titles that most don’t recognize.
