The Florida Gators (18-11, 9-7) held on to beat the No. 12 Auburn Tigers (24-5, 12-4) 72-66 in Gainesville Saturday night.

Auburn was hoping to win at least a share of the SEC regular season title, but the Gators weren’t having any of it. Florida has now won 11 in a row over Auburn and 21 of last 22 games against the Tigers.

The Gators had a nine-point halftime lead, but the Tigers came roaring back in the second half. However, every time it felt like Auburn would take control or had momentum, Florida’s KeVaughn Allen would hit a big shot. Allen finished with 24 points, including six three pointers. The most impressive shot he hit was the halftime buzzer-beater from beyond halfcourt.

Overall, Auburn was very sluggish on offense. Scorers Jared Harper and Bryce Brown combined for just 14 points, and come tournament time, the Tigers will need those two to get hot. Mustapha Heron led Auburn with 22 points.

Florida, like Auburn, was sluggish, too, and nearly blew the lead. The Gators finished just 7-16 from the free throw line, but Allen was able to hit some big threes down the stretch to help lift Florida.
