As social media continues to play a larger role in the recruiting process, college football coaches are looking to use that to their advantage.

On Tuesday, Florida coach Jim McElwain said he’s talked with AD Scott Stricklin about adding some off-field support staff to the team’s recruiting department, according to Scout.com:

“It’s obviously something we’ve got to constantly look to enhance and get better at,” said McElwain on Tuesday in his press conference. “The one thing in the world of recruiting is it literally changes as fast as social media changes today, right? It constantly is evolving. So that’s something [UF former athletic director] Jeremy [Foley] was good about, and Scott [Stricklin] has been great. And as we sit down here after this bowl game and kind of show that chart and where it’s at, we’ll continue to enhance that as we go.”

With so many recruits announcing their top schools on Twitter and also using the social media platform to announce commitments and de-commitments, having an active social media presence is crucial.

The Gators are seemingly trying to make sure they’re at the forefront of whatever digital media helps them land the most top athletes.
