Florida is set to lose a quarterback to the transfer portal, according to a report from Pete Thamel of ESPN.

This is not a new development as Emory Jones in December reportedly made similar plans, though he played in the bowl game. Jones last season led Florida in passing and rushing, with 2,734 yards passing, and 19 touchdowns to go along with 758 yards rushing, and 4 touchdowns. Jones throughout the 2021 season was often viewed as the second choice among fans, who clamored for Anthony Richardson, and much to their chagrin, former coach Dan Mullen continued to start Jones.

When Billy Napier took over, Jones and Napier appeared to strike up a decent first impression.

Two months ago, Napier said, “Emory’s here, he’s in class, he’s participating, he’s done a fantastic job with all the things we’ve asked him to do,” Napier said. “I would hope that our fans and all the people out there would understand what a big deal that is. This is a guy who’s a class act. It’s been very impressive to me, the caliber of person that he is. He’s managed a very difficult situation well. And anything that’s happened in the past, it’s important for the players, but all the people that care about the University of Florida that care about our football program to kind of separate those things.”
