A Florida beat reporter has drawn the ire of some Gators fans on social media for comments picked up by a hot mic on Monday.

Florida live streams Billy Napier’s Monday press conference, allowing fans to listen online. The big story this Monday was the surprising news that defensive starter Brenton Cox is no longer a member of the team.

After the presser, two beat reporters can be heard discussing the questions asked during Monday’s presser The live stream was still going, and the press conference mic picked up their conversation at a low volume. The conversation was captured as a video file and has been shared on social media.

During the conversation about asking planned questions for stories or pressing for more answers on Cox, a veteran Florida beat reporter can be heard making the following quip around the 1:16 mark of the tweeted video below:

“I don’t give a (expletive). … I will be here longer than Billy Napier. I can promise that.”

Predicting to outlast the head coach may make things a bit awkward covering the team, but Florida football has not been the most stable coaching position. The reporter who made the comment has “outlasted five coaches (give or take)” in the words of one colleague.

Napier is 4-4 in his first season as coach of the Gators. UF travels to Texas A&M to face the Aggies in Week 10.
