Florida’s first season under head coach Jim McElwain has had its ups and downs. The Gators got off to a 6-0 start and won the SEC East for the first time since 2009, but also dropped back-to-back games to Florida State and Alabama while struggling on offense.

Even if Gator Nation is feeling down because of the disappointing finish, there were still plenty of moments to celebrate from the 2015 season.

Here are the best five moments:

5. The first touchdown: McElwain knows how to make a greatfirst impression. UF’s first score of the 2015 season was a 37-yard touchdown pass from QB Treon Harris to WR Brandon Powell inWeek 1 against New Mexico State. The speedy Powell got  open behind the defense and hauled in a deep ball from Harris. Ever since Steve Spurrier’s Fun-n-Gun brought the Gators to prominence the 1990s, Florida fans have demanded a vertical passing game in The Swamp. This first score certainly delivered.

4. Hardin’s game-winner: K Austin Hardin didn’t come through for Florida often this season, having made only 5 of 14 field goal attempts, but his late 43-yard field goal against Vanderbilt lifted the Gators to a 9-7 victory that clinched the SEC East. Florida was in danger of losing its third consecutive homecoming game, trailing Vanderbilt 7-6 in the fourth quarter with 2:22 remaining. The sophomore demonstrated an ability to deliver in the clutch, unfortunately it didn’t carry over into the next four games.

3. Bombs away to Callaway: In the second-most impactful deep pass to WR Antonio Callaway on the season, Harris found the freshman speedster ahead of a Georgia defender and hit him on a 66-yard touchdown reception. The Gators would go on to win 27-3 over Georgia and take control of the SEC East race.

2. Grier’s gutsy throw: Few plays exemplify QB Will Grier’s capabilities more than his 36-yard touchdown pass to WR Demarcus Robinson in the first quarter against Ole Miss. With Rebels DL Robert Nkemdiche in the backfield and coming for the quarterback, Grier set his feet and prepared to throw. With Nkemdiche in his face, Grier launched the ball toward the middle of the end zone. Robinson, behind two defensive backs, stretched out his hands and hauled it in for a touchdown. It was the start of a memorable night for the Gators, a 38-10 win over then-No. 3 Ole Miss that turned out to be their best win of the year.

1. 4th-and-14: The most exciting play of the season without a doubt came on a 4th-and-14 situation with the Gators trailing Tennessee 27-21. Grier hit Callaway for a 63-yard touchdown and the extra point gave Florida a 28-27 advantage with 1:26 left in the game. The Volunteers had taken what looked like a game-clinching 27-14 lead at the 10:19 mark in the fourth quarter. The game, which extended UF’s winning-streak against the Vols to 11 games, proved to be a deciding factor in the SEC East race.
