Former Florida coach Will Muschamp comments on Jim McElwain's departure
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp knows what it’s like to be kicked to the curb by Florida, as he went through the same experience back in 2014.
Therefore, he understands more than most what’s going on with Jim McElwain on Sunday, as Mac parted ways with the school via a “mutual decision.”
During Muschamp’s Sunday teleconference with reporters, he extended his condolences to McElwain, but added that he believes the former Florida coach will land on his feet soon:
Muschamp on Jim McElwain: "It’s extremely disappointing. Jim’s a good person and a good football coach. Nothing you want to see in our profession, that’s for sure. I hurt for him."

Will Muschamp on Jim McElwain: "The sun will come up tomorrow morning but I know it’s a difficult time for him right now. I hurt for him."

Muschamp went 28-21 in his four years at Florida, while McElwain’s 2.5-year tenure in Gainesville saw him end up with a 22-12 record.
The Gamecocks host the Gators on Nov. 11, but DC Randy Shannon will serve as the head coach in McElwain’s place.
Then, next year, the Gators will have a new head coach while South Carolina continues to improve under Muschamp.
