Former Florida cult hero kicker Eddy Pineiro given police service award for breaking up an assault
Not many Florida Gators get to hear their names chanted at The Swamp, but former kicker Eddy Pineiro was one of them.
The Gators cult hero did a lot of good on the field, when, quite frankly, there wasn’t a lot of good, but he’s also done good off-the-field, too.
On Sunday, Pineiro shared a police service award given to him by the Gainesville Police Department for breaking up an alleged assault last October. 247Sports reports that Pineiro and his father stopped an alleged assault outside of his apartment. The two woke up and heard the commotion. Then, the assailant got on top of the victim and started punching her. That’s when Pineiro and his father managed to interfere with the attacker, letting the victim get away.
Pineiro, of course, entered the NFL Draft early instead of returning for his senior season, and there’s no doubt he’ll be missed.
