Former Florida LB Neiron Ball is only 26, but is reportedly fighting for his life as of Monday night.

The former fifth-round NFL Draft pick, who spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons with the Oakland Raiders, is currently in a coma and not responding to stimuli.

The Butts County Schools Facebook page updated Ball’s status on Monday, and it doesn’t seem to be looking good:

Per a report from the Orlando Sentinel back in 2015, Ball had surgery for a tangling of blood vessels back in 2010 or 2011, but it’s unclear if that is a factor in why he’s currently in a coma or not:

Ball was a valuable special teams player in 2010 as a first-year player, but a crippling headache the following winter led doctors to diagnose him with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) — a tangling of blood vessels.

“I can’t really explain it,” Ball said in 2012. “The closest thing I can think is somebody just smushing my brain . . . Like somebody was squeezing my brain.”

Ball underwent surgery and sat out the 2011 season.

Whatever the case, here’s hoping Ball recovers quickly. Our thoughts are with the entire Ball family this evening.
