Former University of Florida running back Ran Carthon was named the Director of Pro Personnel by the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers sent out a release that details a quote from new GM John Lynch.

“We want to welcome Ran Carthon and his family to the 49ers,” said Lynch. “Ran has a clear vision for how he plans to run our pro personnel department, and was excited about the opportunity to blend his approach with ours. Having previously directed his own pro department, we expect Ran to hit the ground running and help us build the strongest roster possible.”

Carthon was hired by the 49ers after serving in the same position with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams from 2012-2016.

Carthon will manage the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the 49ers’ Pro Personnel department, which includes evaluating NFL players, assisting with free agency and unrestricted free agents. He’ll also oversee the coordination of the advanced scouting reports for the 49ers opponents.

From 2008-2011, Carthon was formerly a scout with the Atlanta Falcons. He played for the Gators from 2000-2003, and during his last season in Gainesville, Carthon rushed for a team-high 595 yards and seven touchdowns. He played for the Colts and the Lions in the NFL.
