Kerwin Bell is expected to return to the head coaching chair as the former Florida quarterback is reportedly close to landing the Western Carolina job.

Bell previously served as head coach at Jacksonville University and Valdosta State and Trinity Catholic High School in Florida.

Prior to becoming a coach, Bell threw for 7,585 yards with 56 touchdowns to 35 interceptions during his four seasons in Gainesville. He later went on to play in the NFL and CFL.

Now John Brice of FootballScoop is reporting that Western Carolina is “zeroing in” on Bell to be the new leader of the school’s football program.

Bell’s head coaching record in college has been solid up to this point, as he went 66–35 leading Jacksonville University and led Valdosta State to an undefeated season and the NCAA Division II Championship in his final season with the program back in 2018.

Following the Division II title, Bell was hired by Charlie Strong to serve as USF’s offensive coordinator. After Strong was fired, Bell was out of a job.

Now it appears he’ll have another chance to prove what he can do as a college head coach in 2021.
