The Florida Gators have turned things around quickly under Dan Mullen, entering Saturday’s game against Georgia with a 6-1 record and SEC East title hopes.

Last year was a disaster under Jim McElwain, but it’s important to note that McElwain led the Gators to back-to-back SEC East titles in 2015 and 2016.

On Friday, former coach (and current CBS analyst) Rick Neuheisel joined ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM and said he thinks Mullen’s personality is a big reason for the Gators’ turnaround:

“I think this team has hit the reset button from a year ago,” he said. “I think they’ve benefitted, not necessarily from the Xs and Os from Dan Mullen and Todd Grantham on offense and defense. I think they’ve benefitted more from the personality of Dan Mullen. He is a positive guy. He finds ways to find good in things, rather than looking at the negative.

“Juxtapose that from Jim McElwain a year ago. Jim McElwain may be a wonderful person, may be a wonderful coach, but he got paranoid — to the point where he thought people were calling with death threats. He couldn’t laugh at the shark thing.”

Can Mullen keep the Gators rolling? If they beat Georgia this weekend, they’ll have a good chance of heading to Atlanta for the third time in four years.
