With the score tied at 34-34 with less than 2 minutes remaining in Saturday night’s LSU-Florida game, the Gator defense made a huge stop on third down.

But, there was a flag thrown after the play? The reason? Florida DB Marco Wilson had picked up an LSU player’s shoe and chucked it 20 yards downfield. He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, keeping the Tigers’ drive alive.

By now, you know how this story ends. LSU’s Cade York made a 57-yard field goal. Florida’s Evan McPherson missed his opportunity to tie it as time expired, and with that miss, Florida’s College Football Playoff hopes died.

After the game, Wilson’s dad took to Twitter to say that his son feels sick about what happened during the game:

Wilson is obviously a talented defender, but a mistake of that magnitude will be remembered in Gainesville for a long time.

Now, we’ll see if the Gators can regroup in time to face Alabama in the SEC title game this coming weekend.
