Resembling a MASH unit as opposed to a college football team, the Florida Gators are hoping it can knock off the LSU Tigers at home in ‘The Swamp’ this weekend.

With injuries littering the two-deep, Jim McElwain’s team may be boosted with the return of starting signal-caller Luke Del Rio.

A nasty knee injury versus North Texas has kept him out of action for the past two games. He’s slowly worked his way back into practice — although his status for the contest still remains a question mark.

Speaking at the Wednesday teleconference, McElwain gave his thoughts on Del Rio’s health — as well as how fellow quarterback Austin Appleby is fitting into the mix:

“[Del Rio has] been pretty good. We are checking stiffness, soreness. We are still splitting reps with Appleby but we will see more [Wednesday]. My concern is for the players. We need to make sure they can go at a high level. Making sure [Del Rio] can do what he was able to do before (the injury).”

While McElwain certainly wants Del Rio to play, it appears as if he won’t rush him out onto the field if the quarterback isn’t fully ready.

On the year, Del Rio’s thrown six touchdowns to only two interceptions — whilst completing passes at a 61.4-percent clip. Appleby has similar numbers, albeit in a smaller sample size. He completing passes at 61.6-percent average, and has three touchdowns to one interception.
