Micah Handlogten, a 7-foot-1 center who played at Marshall last season, has announced a commitment to play in the SEC.

Handlogten, who had a top 8 of NC State, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Virginia and Arkansas, committed to the Gators in a Monday announcement. He has 3 years of remaining eligibility.

At Marshall, Handlogten last season started 32 games and played 25.3 minutes per game. Handlogten averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists. He shot 71.1% on 2-point attempts and 54.3% at the free throw line.

Handlogten was the Thundering Herd’s leading rebounder, shot blocker and fifth-leading scorer. He was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, and he ranked 12th in the nation in blocks per game and 17th in rebounds per game.

Coming out of high school, Handlogten went to Marshall as a 3-star recruit out of Southlake Christian Academy in Huntersville, N.C.

At Florida, Handlogten is set to be a key piece to the rebuild at Florida under new head coach Todd Golden. Last season, the Gators finished 16-17 and 9-9 in the SEC in Golden’s first season.
