Keyontae Johnson was the preseason SEC Player of the Year ahead of the 2020-21 season. However, early in the campaign, he suffered a scary medical incident against Florida State.

After recovering in the hospital, Johnson wasn’t cleared to take the court again for the Gators.

Apparently, that’s still the case for the star forward. On Tuesday, coach Mike White spoke with reporters and said there has been no status change regarding Johnson:

Johnson served basically as an extra coach for the Gators on the bench after his medical incident last season. It seems that role will continue as the 2021-22 season quickly approaches.

In his last full season, 2019-20, Johnson played in 31 games for the Gators, starting all of them. He averaged 14 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.
