A week ago, former Florida standout Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was on the receiving end of punches thrown by Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims, a former Georgia standout. The NFL quickly handed down a two-game suspension for Wims. This weekend, Gardner-Johnson received his punishment from the league for his involvement in the scuffle.

“Saints DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson was fined $5,128 for unsportsmanlike conduct as part of last week’s brouhaha with Bears WR Javon Wims, who was suspended two games for punching him,” NFL Media’s Tom Pelisserro reported on Twitter.

Gardner-Johnson, a notorious on-field trash-talker since his high school football days, probably won’t sweat a five-figure fine. Gardner-Johnson recorded 9 tackles, including his first 2 TFLs of the 2020 season, in New Orleans’ 26-23 overtime win over the Bears.

The former Gator is back in the Sunshine State this week as the Saints takes on Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.
