Urban Meyer is clearly a fan of giving second chances.

The coach’s willingness to overlook red flags in his assistants certainly gave him some issues during his time at Ohio State — following the allegations made against former Buckeye and Florida assistant coach Zach Smith — but now that he’s in the NFL, Meyer is showing that he is still willing to give coaches a shot at redemption.

On Thursday, Meyer’s Jaguar team announced the hiring of former Iowa strength coach, Chris Doyle. Doyle served 20 seasons at Iowa and was the nation’s highest-paid strength coach until several allegations of mistreatment from former Iowa players were made during the summer of 2019.

Following the allegations, Iowa suspended Doyle on June 6, 2019. A day later, he issued a statement claiming he never “crossed the line of unethical behavior or bias based on race.”

A week later, Iowa and Doyle parted ways after 20 seasons.

“This was not a decision that I made lightly,” Iowa AD Gary Barta said at the time, “and it is just one piece of a plan that’s going to be needed for us to move forward.”

In addition to the hire of Doyle, Jacksonville named Charlie Strong assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach, Darrell Bevell offensive coordinator, Joe Cullen defensive coordinator, Brian Schneider special teams coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer passing game coordinator, Chris Ash defensive backs coach, Tyler Bowen tight ends coach, Joe Danna nickel backs coach and several other coaches as analysts.
