Antonio Callaway may have been cited for marijuana possession, but the former Florida wide receiver is claiming he didn’t know it was in his car.

An NFL source told Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot that Callaway just had his car shipped to Cleveland after some friends had been using it in Florida. When he was pulled over at 2:59 a.m. on Sunday morning, Callaway claims he didn’t know there was marijuana in the car when he told the police officers they could search the vehicle.

Callaway was also cited for driving with a suspended license, an issue that Cabot reported that Callaway thought he had already resolved.

Callaway’s hearing is Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Strongsville’s Mayor’s Court.

This isn’t the first marijuana-related issue that Callaway has had. The Cleveland Browns receiver is already in Stage 1 of the NFL’s Substance Abuse Program after a dilute urine sample at the NFL Combine in March. Callaway told NFL Network that he smoked marijuana several weeks before the combine.

A spokesperson for the Strongsville police told Cabot that the case is “under investigation” and that dashcam footage will later be made available. A small amount of marijuana was found under Callaway’s driver’s seat.

The citations come at a bad time for Callaway, who the Browns recently promoted to first-string offense after trading wide receiver Corey Coleman to the Buffalo Bills. It is unclear how this incident will impact Callaway’s rookie season.
