When the Carolina Panthers made the Super Bowl in 2015, it was led by a strong defense. The following season saw that fearsome unit take a step back, and the Panthers may be looking to Gainesville for help in the draft.

That aforementioned NFC champion Panthers’ squad from 2015 had a league-leading 10 Pro Bowlers, led by First Team All-Pro Josh Norman at the cornerback spot. Norman departed to Washington for a huge payday following that season, and the defense has never been the same.

It would make sense, then, that the defensive-minded Ron Rivera would want a look at two members of one of the stingiest secondaries in all of college football.

In fact, Florida finished first in the SEC and second in the nation last season with 148.5 pass yards allowed per game. This was due to their deep and talented personnel, with All-SEC First Teamer Jalen “Teez” Tabor at corner and All-SEC Second Teamer Marcus Maye at safety.

NFLDraftScout.com (via CBS Sports) lists Tabor as the No. 4 corner available, while they have Maye listed as the fifth-rated safety. Due to the two players’ difference in grade and the depth of this draft, it is a solid possibility that the Panthers land one, or even both of the former Gators.

This was made even more possible when Tabor struggled a bit during the NFL Combine, running a 4.63 in the 40-yard dash. On the surface, Tabor’s lack of an elite time may seem like a bad thing, but it also gives him the opportunity to fall to a talented team like the Panthers if he slips out of the first round.
