The Florida Gators aren’t going to have much margin for error this year as they try to get back to being bowl eligible.

On Wednesday, coach Dan Mullen and his staff got some terrible news, as it was reported that star DE Cece Jefferson had surgery on his right shoulder and would be out for up to four months.

According to The Sun’s Robbie Andreu, Jefferson injured his shoulder in the first half of the spring game:

The No. 1 goal of spring games is to get out of them without anyone getting hurt. However, it appears the Gators suffered a major injury in theirs.

Jefferson recorded 47 tackles (13.5 for a loss) and 4.5 sacks in 2017. He was going to be counted on to do even more in 2018, but now it is unclear whether he’ll be at 100 percent for the season opener or not.
