Graduate transfers have become a major fad in college sports, and in particular men’s college basketball, over recent years. On Tuesday, the SEC announced its preseason player of the year is none other than graduate transfer and Florida Gators forward Kerry Blackshear Jr.

Blackshear nearly entered the 2019 NBA Draft, but he pulled out of the draft pool at the last minute. In 35 games with Virginia Tech last season, he averaged 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

He’s averaged 11.2 points per game in 72 career college starts. Blackshear appeared in 103 games at Virginia Tech from 2015-19. After he decided to return to college, Blackshear announced he would be transferring and chose Florida over several SEC schools.
