These days, you can never really tell what’s going to happen during the coaching carousel as coaches often lean toward one job before taking another.

Of course, that’s not even the most bizarre events we see during the coaching carousel as some coaches change jobs like some people do haircuts.

This coaching carousel, we’ve seen offensive line coach Will Friend accept a job at South Carolina and Auburn within two weeks’ time while also seeing Tracy Rocker accepted three jobs in under three weeks’ time.

It wasn’t that long ago, Florida fans were expecting former South Carolina defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson to accept a position coaching defensive backs in Gainesville but, of course, we know that didn’t happen. Instead, Robinson landed a role coaching defensive backs on Manny Diaz’s Miami staff.

Now we have some information on how that transpired.

According to Robinson, who recently joined the Behind The U Podcast, he was headed to Florida to work for Dan Mullen before Diaz recruited him to Miami.

“To be honest with you, I was gonna go to Florida. I was going to go but Manny did such a great job, just in the hiring process of showing me who he really was,” Robinson said on the show. “Talking to me about the staff, about the plans and expectations and all things. And at the end of the day, I want to win. I want to go to a place, who’s gonna have a chance to win and win immediately. And that can use my help as far as developing the secondary, the way that it needs to be developed.”

Since arriving in Miami, Robinson also expressed he has been impressed with the program’s cornerbacks coach, DeMarcus Van Dyke. Getting an opportunity to work with Van Dyke may have also played a part in Robinson’s decision to join Miami.

“And I really fell in love with (Miami cornerbacks coach DeMarcus) Van Dyke when I got down here,” Robinson added. “I wanted a younger guy, a guy that got the skill set that I see myself from back in the day. I see a lot of me in him, a guy who’s gonna work. A guy who is very personable in recruiting, and I’m just kind of explaining to him everything that we’re doing, but he’s doing an amazing job in my three days here. He’s been on top of it.”

Following Robinson’s decision to join Miami’s staff, Florida has since hired safeties coach Wesley McGriff and cornerbacks coach Jules Montinar.
